“Do not trust them”

We had a booking in place for 18 people for May 2012 and planned to take the entire hotel - all rooms and suites. We had it confirmed in writing with all of the relevant dates, details, pricing, etc. confirmed. Out of the blue, the management said that they had another group coming in and could no longer honor our reservation nor could they accommodate us at another date. The reservations manager William and the director Hicham were particularly rude and unhelpful. We have stayed in many of the best hotels around the world and have never experienced such appalling behavior. I would be very hesitant to book with this hotel - you may not have a room when you arrive.

“Wonderful”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 October 2011

We stayed for 2 nights as part of a longer visit to Morocco. The hotel closes for a month in summer and had just reopened when we arrived and for our first night we were the only people staying there. Just us, the manager William (or should that be Guillaume as he was French but spoke perfect English) and 70 or so staff (who are so skilled and unobtrusive you hardly know they are there unless you need them). The second night was a little busier with 5 more people arriving!

The welcome and service was second to none. We had a bit of a problem with the air con as it just wasn't cooling the room so we spent the second night in a different room - nothing was too much trouble for the staff.

The first evening we said we would like to watch the sunset from the terrace at the top of the Kasbah. A member of staff tapped on our door at the appropriate time and led us to the terrace which had been laid with cushions and a low table. We nibbled snacks and sipped a fabulous Margarita as the sun set. A small group of musicians was playing just out of view and the whole roof area was lit by candles.

But better was to come. As we looked over the parapet from the roof terrace we could see a fairyland scenario below us - our dinner table in the middle of the grass surrounded by dozens of candles - it was magical. When we were ready, we went to dinner and had a fabulous meal.

The next day was just as wonderful - but some of the magic comes from the surprise so I won't elaborate except to say that it was my birthday and it was one I will remember for ever.

When we left we were given a little woven basket with a few goodies for lunch to take with us - its these little touches that make it so special.

A wonderful place - highly recommended.

“Wonderful Oasis”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 October 2011

This is a magical place, as soon as you enter the non assuming doors, it turns into a wonderful visual oasis. The rooms are wonderful and the food, sensational. You will never eat the same thing twice, nor eat at the same dining area. Don't miss out on a night in the dessert, ask for details with your booking.

“Awaken Your Dreams”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 September 2011 via mobile

Nothing can prepare you for the experience of Dar Ahlam. As you enter the Kasbah you surrender your senses to another world and reawaken the child within; who dreamed of living in such a magical palace. To call it a hotel misses the point. The wonderful staff are lowkey but provide excellent service - without getting in the way and disturbing the dream, that for your stay, this is home. Food is fresh, organic and very healthy (although there are lots of courses to get through!). Each meal is made into am occasion and set in a different relaxing location. The spa treatments are excellent too. This place looks expensive and is-but all food and drink and trips are included in the price- so if you want really unforgettable experience, it's worth the price tag.

“Seriously, the best ever!”

At the risk of repeating the what the other reviews have said, let me add that the Dar Ahlam is absolutely dreamy. Fabian and his staff truly make the experience. The service is outstanding and the personal attention is authentic. We enjoyed a lovely villa for three magical nights. True, the air conditioning went out the first night in the bedroom but the staff simply recreated the bedroom in the sitting room space...leaving the two of us still with a kitchen, two bathrooms and a living room....and a lovely patio and splash pool outside to boot! I have life-threatening food allergies and the staff was incredibly proactive on my behalf, preparing special substitutions for me when needed. Every eating experience was beyond first class...from location to service to the taste and presentation of the food. And we vacation primarily in search of the best eating experiences! True, getting there is not easy, especially in the off season when the only flight in lands at 1 am. But the hotel will arrange a car and driver pick up and return from Marrakech. The drive is beautiful and the destination is well worth the effort. Ask Fabian to take you on a bike ride of the area...very special indeed. This is a true luxury experience, worthy of its Relais & Chateaux affiliation. Understated excellence with no false flash or pomp and circumstance. Pricey, yes but the experience is more than worth it. We are fortunate to be able to take amazing vacations every year and with this component of our trip to Morocco, we nearly out-did ourselves in our selection of the Dar Ahlam.
