We had booked two nights here but we found the whole experience so profoundly depressing we checked out after one night. A very large hotel in another Moroccan town with over-provision of accommodation. The rooms are awful - very dingy with few amenities and the whole of the public areas need a good coat of paint. Like its sister hotel in Erfound, there is only a set meal in the evening (although there is limited choice unlike in Erfoud) which is at best adequate. Breakfast consisted of stone cold scrambled egg, pink Spam and bread - no cheese, yogurt or anything else - hardly 4* level which it is supposed to be. Service across the hotel was OK, but somewhat sullen. To give an idea of when its heyday may have been, the foreign exchange board (which was not functioning) listed all the pre-Euro currencies!

The Belere is part of the Kenzi chain so its correct name is the Kenzi Belere and not just "Belere." It's another "kasbah" hotel but instead of having the rooms in the main building, they're scattered through the extensive grounds in typical buildings each with two rooms. My room 529 was huge with two beds and a Berber style couch. The bath was large but had no hair dryer. The grounds and pool were beautiful and I would have enjoyed staying there more than just one night. The restaurant food was very good, including the breakfast buffet. There's not much in the town but this hotel is a very comfortable place to stay while exploring the dunes of Merzouga. Posted room prices: single 700 Dh; double 900 Dh.
