“Bright rooms..small bathrooms”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 November 2011 via mobile

Can't beat the location - 2 minutes from the central square and the rooms are bright. Guernika is a cute place..just make sure you get the mountain view rooms - the others are a bit dark. The terrace is a great place to hang out at and gaze at the stars.

The only complaint was the size of the bathrooms - the smallest I've ever seen. However, at the price we paid, its not really fair to expect much more.

“Lovely Hostal!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 December 2010

Hostal Guernika is a lovely and wellmanaged hostel in the blue city Chefchaouen. The rooms are very clean and they have a sunny terrace with a great view to the mountains. On a rainy winter day they were so nice to put a fire in the chimney. Thanks for being so helpful and the nice stay in your hostal.

“Great value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 February 2010

Nice hotel with perfect location. Rooms rather simple and small, some with great view, others unfortunately dark. Clean colorful bathrooms. While our visit in winter it was very cold at nights as rooms have no heaters. The best thing about this hotel is beautiful roof terrace with spectacular view. Unfortunately the owners speak only Spanish so it was quite challenging to communicate. In general: great value for money.

“Tasteful, rooms are clean and spacious, feels very private and secure.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 January 2010

After having our reservation given away in Fes we didn't know what to expect. Thankfully, Hostal Guernika was beyond our wildest dreams. Lot's of class and tasteful decoration, felt more like a hotel. We stayed in a double room with a private bath- I believe most of the rooms have bath ensuite. The terrace, as others have noted, is spectacular and the owners are very welcoming and attentive. Probably most important for me, the rooms were clean and the environment felt cheerful and relaxed.

“Cute hostel, good location, bathrooms can be challenging”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 July 2006

This hotel is run by Spaniards and as such, is quite popular with Spaniards. I would say we felt a bit outnumbered staying here and a bit alienated as well, but we may have been too sensitive....the owner only really spoke Spanish and it was a challenge to be understood but we made it! My husband and I stayed here in June 2006 for 3 nights. The hostel is located just inside the main entrance of the Medina. It is about a 5 minute walk from the main square assuming you don't bother to stop and chat with the guys offering you "something special, my friend." Hostel is 4 floors with a fabulous terrace overlooking the new ville and mountainsides. The downside is that the bathrooms (when the rooms are fully booked) can be difficult to access for showers in the morning. It also seemed that there was no hot water after lunch. But we would suggest you press on, and if you can get a room overlooking the correct side, you will be rewarded with fabulous views and you won't care if you skipped your morning shower. We found this listed in Lonely Planet and it described a housefull of friendly animals....alas, all we found was one grumpy dog who growled at us each time we entered the main door. No domesticated cats either....can you tell we were really missing our animals? No food available here, no big deal but don't count on breakfast included. The rooms are squeaky clean as are the bathrooms and shower. This was KEY! As a bonus, your room key has a most excellent key fob. If you have your windows open in the morning, you may be woken up by woodworkers across the alley who start work around 8:30. All in all, this is a charmingly decorated place with tilework and uplifting color schemes and clean as a whistle. We recommend!
