“Charming but somewhat dark”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 July 2011

The Pension is very near to the main attactions and in the middle of the medina, very easy to access. The staff is young and friendly but somewhat helpless.
I am a hard-of-hearing woman who cannot use a phone and I asked for a call to my driver but the staff didn´t know how to help. I asked again if they can call for me. The excuse was that they cannot use their phone for outgoing calls (crap!) and I didn´t believe because they had lot of outgoing calls. They asked me to buy a telephone card, go to a public telephone and ask somebody on the street to call instead of me!
The room was extremely small, dark and totally cold-humid. The smell of humidity stung in the air and in the beds. I got a bad coughing which lasted two weeks!
I recommend everybody to visit Chefchaouen during summer months when the weather is sunny.
Nevertheless, the whole house is charming, with a sophisticated hispano-arab style.

Room Tip: Try to ask the staff directly and perhaps you will be lucky.

“If you like the smell of smoke”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 March 2011

As previously mentioned the air con does not work and the rooms and hotel in general is really cold during winter. You can however keep warm by the fireplace. The only problem with this is that there is no proper ventilation, leaving the entire hotel smelling of smoke including YOU. Everything that we brought to the hotel and wore during our stay reeked of smoked and had to be washed the next day. This is a shame since the hotel does have real potential and the breakfast was very filling. The evening and morning staff does in addition speak very limited english which is not helpful considering it being a hotel.

“Casa Hassan,...sort of”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 December 2010

Read other postings re reserving at the hotel, and, upon arrival, of being sent to the sister hotel across the street. This is my experience, as well. As my visit was in the winter, the main hotel does not appear to be open - just the restaurant and the Dar Baibou.

The room was basic, and clean, and had a heat/air cond unit, with a remote control. I was there for one night in early December, 2010, and although the heating unit worked, I was still cold.

The staff was very nice, and attentive.

Lunch or dinner is included in the price, and it is served in the actual Casa Hassan building. The restaurant is rustic and charming, with a wood-burning fireplace. The menu has a number of traditional Moroccan dishes. The harirra soup was the ultimate comfort food on a cold, rainy night, and the meat tagine was tasty, as well.

Breakfast was basic Continental, but the quality and quantity were good.

“The Blue Town!”

This restored villa is in a great location in the medina. Ask for a room in the new building as here the rooms have more natural light, are larger and quieter than in the older part. Make sure you have a hammam with massage - an unforgettable experience! The restaurant is across the lane.

“An unloved hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 June 2010

We stayed at the Casa Hassan for 2 nights in late May. As another reviewer commented the price changed from the time we booked it a couple of days earlier to what we were told the room rate was when we arrived.
The woman at front of house was friendly and helpful.
The room was a generous size and had the potential to be nice with the furishings and decoration, but it felt very unloved. The room was semi-clean but more thprough cleaning would have improved it.
The room rate included breakfast and dinner. Breakfast was not up to the usual standard of other riads or hotels we've stayed in Morocco. As with the room, it felt that it was provided without much care or love. Dinner at the restaurant over the street was very good.- staff were very friendly and the meal was like a good home cooked Moroccan meal.
