We came to Sepilok with high-ish expectations which never became fulfilled. We also planned on staying two nights, but we left around noon the next day. While the lodge appears really exciting upon entry, you quickly realise that it's beauty from afar but more like beast up close.
The manager was drinking vodka out of a bottle upon arrival around 8:30pm which I thought was pretty entertaining at first until I realised that the slack attitude runs straight through (I don't know if the fact that it was Chinese new year should count in their favour?!). The room was okay, and the attached bathroom slightly less.
The next morning at breakfast, the staff - again - were almost useless. I went to the open basin to wash my hands and I had already applied soap, but there was no water coming out of the tap. So I informed one of the waiters, who said "oh no" and did nothing about it.
There are better places to stay just as there are better places to view Orangutans.
Room Tip: I heard the dorms are better value for money

The vodka is filled with plain water. Anyone can try it if they wish to.
Our staff may not know how to respond since their English is limited and they are from the nearby village and that is why they say oh no. One may find it amusing or funny, but as English is not their first language, it is little hard for them to express themselves. We will try to give them more training.
But they have informed it to the maintenance and the water came shortly after that. There was a leaking in our pipe and on that day we have to shut it off for maintenance. However, it took less than 5 minutes for everything to be fixed.
