There is no need to mention the diving..it has the best diving sites in the world and I am not only talking about those around Sipadan. There probably is no need to dive: at the pier I saw more species of sea life that I ever had in my life just by holding a cold beer and standing near the water. There was even a baby barracuda lurking right under the steps leading to the diving centre. We stayed at Room 201, and at a moon lit night I woke up and watched a lone sea-turtle making its way across the silver lagoon.
The resort provides plenty of food for regular meals as well as different snacks, some of them very good, some less so, but never bad. There is room for improvement for the coffee, which is instant. The selection of wine is rather limited, but given the remoteness of the location and that it is largely a muslim country, I am stating this as a fact but not a complaint. Wine lovers should consider bringing their own.
The staffs were all smiles at all times and seemed to really enjoy our presence. The rooms are good with a spectacular view, although one could use better towels and the bicycles should be serviced.
The diving support is as good as one can expect: attentive staffs headed by Eva, the managress and experienced dive masters. The DM assigned to my group is Patrick and he is excellent. I would however, wish that the resort could be firmer in enforcing the No-Touch Policy. Not that we were touching anything in the water, but I would like to see more signs or notices emphasising the importance of minimum physical contact with the wild lives. It is my second visit in four years, and I am happy to report that I did not see any deterioation in the natural environment. From what I heard from the non-diving members of our group, the spa and massage services were very good as well.
It took us about 12 hours of travel from Hong Kong to reach this site, but it was worth it. I would definitely recomend this place to both divers and non-divers.
