“Good View with no facilities”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 December 2011

Bamboo Hill Chalets have a great views and that is the only positive about the place. The rooms are very basic and gets very humid, big gaps in the floors invites jungle-crawlie and gets pretty scary at night.. the people running the place are friendly but agian the basic courteous is missing.. They do claim to accept credit card but we were cheated as they double charged me by saying the machine is not working after sweeping it and took RM 70 for a night.
I did a multiple followup on mails but never got my money back .. bacause of this we only spent a night at the cottage..

Room Tip: 1,2 and 3 are the better Chalets.

“Going Downhill”

Bamboo Hill Chalets need some serious renovations and bush trimming! Chalets 5&6 command great views; however, these views are becoming more and more obstructed by jungle growth. It was also nearly impossible to enjoy sitting on the balcony as we were pestered by insects and even a snake that had taken up residence in the rafters. Yes, the start of the monsoon season does attract more critters, but the wild jungle growth also contributes to the increase in bugs and reptiles.

The wooden floors and ceiling are being eaten by termites as evidenced by the small piles of sawdust seen on the floor each morning. And the door locks are problematic.

I hope that the younger generation now in charge of the chalets can make the necessary improvements (to go along with the new higher prices) as I'd really like to visit again next year!

“Nice place to relax with a great view”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 September 2011

We ended up staying here 6 nights in one of the chalets that are 'shared' with respect to the building. Each room has its own en-suite bathroom. Therefore you are a bit dependent on your neighbor's habits as the chalets are made of wood and therefore the noise insulation is limited. If they are available there are also 'private' chalets where this potential issue does not exist. These cost a bit more.

The location is awesome. You have a great view of the beach. The chalets are at the end of the beach and not along the main pathway which other accommodations within ABC may have.

The room is sufficiently equipped and the fan does its job. However if you cannot stand the heat during the day the evenings may be a bit hot for you as well... nothing wrong with this accommodation as you are on a tropical island.

ABC has various, relatively inexpensive, place to have a bite or a drink. If you do not want to go out for a drink you can get your drinks from the duty free shops in Tekek (1 hour stroll) or Salang (requires a water taxi).

Room Tip: Take one of the 'private' chalets for additional privacy if you can afford 30 to 50 RM per n...

“Basic but beautiful”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 September 2011

This is my favourite in Tioman. RM70-100 per night is reasonable for the perfect view and a feel of being at the water and in the jungle at the same time. Bamboo Hill is not for everyone. It is basic, has only cold water, big gaps in the floors invites jungle-crawlies. It is very hot, and service is minimal but friendly. It is not suitable for families or party-animals, but it is perfect for those who just want a simple place to relax, read a book and enjoy the scenery.

“beautiful place but beware of bed bugs”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 July 2011

Bambohill is a great place for vacationing and enjoying nature. nice beach for swimming during high and low tides. great view from rooms, friendly, relaxed service. beach side restaurant with good, cheap food. mosquito nets ok, but beware of bed bugs! (30+ really itchy bites).
