“Super thin walls and sticky carpets”

Stayed here as part of a seminar deal, which I didn't end up fully utilizing as I wanted to be outdoors most of the time. Hence, overpaid for a garden view room. Here are the pros and cons of the place:
Pros
- Central, which is basically two minute walk to the center of 'town' being mostly the clock tower few shops and little else.
- Decent balcony views of the gardens and surrounds.
- Amenities such as ATM, wifi and shops on site.
- Decent facade when you come in, with decent food with on site cafe. Had all meals with package deal, and food was surprisingly decent and plentiful.
-Hot showers, yay!

Cons
- The hotel is a throw back to the 80s, with ugly carpeting in the room, which doesnt feel too good on bare feet, hence slippers throughout the room.
- Shower was a trickle of water, no power showers here.
- Super thin walls, so lotsa snoring, door slamming, talking can be heard, specially if you have lots of people on the same floor.
- Mattress was too springy, with limp pillows.
- No place to hang anything except in the bathroom.
- Felt slightly icky, like this was a really tired hotel that hadn't been refurbished in awhile (except for some attempts at the reception and main areas etc)
-Service was so so, with serving staff slow and with attitudes, when you seek things out etc.
Overall, the beauty and serenity of Fraser's Hill was the only redemption for this trip, which could have been ruined by this inn. Honestly, it has to improve or lose out to nearby Puncak Inn, Smokehouse, bungalows etc. Until they clean up their act, please look elsewhere.
Hint: Remove those darn carpets and replace with wood !!

Room Tip: Choose larger rooms.

“Reasonable Price for Room with Basic Amenities”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 December 2011

The whole idea of travelling to Fraser's Hill is to enjoy the weather (cooler than Cameron Highlands) and to relax. So I did not expect very much from this hotel. On the whole the staff were polite and helpful. The beds were comfortable. There was a shower but the hot water ran out in the night and the next morning it came back. However the temperature was erratic and it was not a pleasant time when you had to alternate from being scalded by hot water to suddenly being doused with freezing water.

Breakfast was basic but there was enough to eat and the dishes were replaced as fast as they were emptied.

No problem with parking places.

One website said they had complimentary LAN but they only had WiFi in the lobby and in the first floor conference room. However there are lots of tables and chairs in the lobby so using the internet in the lobby was not a problem for me. I did manage to get a weak signal in my third floor room.

“Just a place to stay”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 November 2011

This hotel is just a plae to stay for a night. My reviews as follow

Check In: I arrived around 12pm and was trying my luck to check in. To my surprise the room is ready. My room is a golf view room and located on the 2nd floor

Room: The room is having some sort of a musty smell and the ceiling is having some water stain. Another weird this is the wash room, the sink hole is very near to the wash basin. Imagine you standing on the sink hole while washing your face! I ordered an extra bed and the mattress is really soft even though they put 2 layers. When i sit on top, it sank down. Not sure whether the same condition happens in other room types.

Location: It is in the town center and pretty much close to shops, restaurants, ATM [Maybank]

In House-Restaurant: The restaurant even though is an A grade but actually it should be B as the conditions are not really clean. You can see some cob webs and dead insects in the corner and near the pillars. Eww... Breakfast wise are just so-so. Not much variety but enough to fill you up. Typical food like nasi lemak, bread, sausages, beans...

Summary: If you are looking for a night stay and dont mind about those items that I mentioned.

Room Tip: If you are interested in the golf view, please book early to avoid disappointment

“Recommended place to stay with reasonable price”

Actually is probably the cleanest place in Fraser's Hill. We came to Fraser's Hill without any prior hotel booking and practically started a day with looking for accomodation. After viewing ALL hotels we decided to check-in in Shahzan. It's not a top perfect place but offers clean rooms with daily change of bed lining, equipped with TV (7 local channels), electrical water jug, complimentary drinking water, and few sachets of tea and sugar. Showers and furnitures require more attention and probably improvement but were clean ! Towels, toilet paper and soap provided. Breakfast (included into a price) was simple but tasty and fresh, and offered a choice of Malaysian, Chinese and European food (nasi lemak, congee, nasi campur, omelettes, scrambled eggs, choice of toasts and jams, cereals, fruits etc.). To get the full meal offer don't be too late at restaurant. Breakfast is served between 7.30 to 10.30 but after 9.00 choice is a little bit more limited (most of the hotel guests come rather early). Staff was helpful and smily. Shahzan Inn was THE ONLY hotel in Fraser's Hill without smell of dump and fungis.

Room Tip: Garden View rooms are located at the third floor - good access by car. No astonishing view but you c...

“Much improved. Better than I expected.”

Always loved Frasers Hill and last trip was Dec 2010 while the entire area was undergoing upgrading works. Glad to return and find nearly everything transformed. Thoroughly enjoyed this trip. Okay, about Shahzan Inn. The most well located lodging, it was pretty run down through the years and Pine Resorts was my default place to stay. This round however Shahzan Inn was perfect(for couple stays).

Likes :
1. Clean room
2. Central location
3. Reasonable Price for peak period (RM273/USD91 for a night)
4. There's a Maybank right outside now
5. Reasonable breakfast spread - Nasi Lemak, french toast, red beans..etc. Not sure why others bickering on this. The breakfast area was really nice. Check out my pixs.
6. Balcony view over the golf course. My room was #312
7. Friendly staff

Dislikes
1. Rather sparse amenities for the price. No mineral water or newspaper as well
2. Thin walls. Heh heh so dont be too loud *wink*
3. Nothing much else to dislike. Served its purpose well.

Room Tip: Ask for the golf course view. Higher floors are naturally better view.
