“Ok, but would not go again”

We stayed in the camp one night during a 4 day Safari. The biggest difference to our other stops was the fact that you did not sleep in tents, but in solid houses nestled into the mountain with one wall being a moskito net. The rooms and bathrooms are really nice and the view from the restaurant is spectacular.

Now the cons: As said, the houses are built into the rocks. We had some rain in the evening and afterwards there were just way too many critters around (huge slaters, millipedes etc.). I compared it to the ditch in the King Kong movie. In the end we had a 30 cm centipede in our room, great... Be careful, these guys are poisonous. It is ok, you are in the wild, I know, but now I would always prefer a tent (elevated, if possible) to a rock house, as we never had any problems with uninvited guests in them.

The food was the blandest of all our stops and drinks prices were the highest.

All in all, I'd use another place in Tsavo West next time.

Room Tip: Do not mistake this place with Ngulia Safari LODGE, these two even get mixed up on certain booking s...

“No improvement since built”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 November 2011

This lodge is locked in a time warp and is just as the builders left it. The rooms are small the bathroom filthy with mouldy shower curtain and cracked tiles. Electric cables loose across the stairs. As for the food you can survive on it and they are clever in feeding the animals so that they make a nightly appearance

“Great place, what a view”

Okay its not a 5 star hotel, but the view is at least worth 8 stars . Besides that, its great to be escorted to your room by this mysterious beautiful Masai man. The campfire late at night, was great, the host was very sympathetic and informative, the staff helpful and the food very good. If you expect 5 stars luxury like back home, than your in the wrong place. If you take Kenia as it is than it's a wonderful place to stay. Loved every minute of it. (been there now for the second time) and it still has a special place in my heart.

“How could anyone not love this place!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 August 2011

I booked Ngulia Bandas last year as part of our honeymoon experience, but a mistake led us to Ngulia safari lodge ( reading the reviews people seem to be confusing the pair) - I had booked the suite at the top of the hill with the jacuzzi but was atad bummed that due to driver error ( silly error) we stayed at the Lodge which was not that nice -infact, the view was the only saving grace. To rectify this our very lovely driver spoke to the manager at the Bandas and we spent several hours between our safari drives in the suite we booked, jacuzzi, sunloungers and what a view. We ate lunch there which served the best french onion soup I've ever had. The staff were fab, and the manager there to greet us was just the nicest man who just hoped we would have the best honeymoon. Drinks were fairly cheap and the panaromic view from the restaurant was just the best.
I cannot say enough about Ngulia Bandas, just ask for the suite at the top of the hill, huge canvas fronted suite, panoramic views, huge bed, huge bathroom, Jacuzzi ....whats not to love!!!!
Any questions just ask
Thanks Caroline and Martin

“Highlight of our African Safari”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 June 2011

We arranged a safari whilst staying in Mombasa and selected to stay at Ngulia as the brochure proved interesting.
We were not dissapointed! We enjoyed the Tsavo West safari but the highlight of our trip was without question our stay at Ngulia. The setting is perfect, perched up on the side of the hill the rooms themselves have superb views across the African plains.
The lodge was comfortable with modern bathroom yet we were still very aware that we were in the wilderness. Electricity was only part of the day and was switched off in late evening (10 o'clock we seem to remember) which made the use of the candles and gas lanterns part of the experience which we loved.
The whole side of the room was constructed 'tent style' that could be unzipped and opened up onto the small private terrace.
After dark the Masai escort you to the main building as you are in leopard country . This escorted walk through the narrow pathways to the sounds of African insects and bull frogs was again a wonderfull experience.
Food was African and interesting, the service was very good and sincere.
In summary, we loved the whole experience, wonderfully romantic, unspoilt and a real treat. We would love to return.
