My daughter and I stayed here during our 3 day safari in Tsavo East and West during January 2012. Our first sight of the magical Salt Lick Game Lodge was on a bend in the road on our way to it. All we could say was Wow! Nathan, our brilliant driver, stopped to let us have a look and take a photo. What a sight! Having read reviews on here we were so looking forward to our one night stay. Unique. It was designed by a woman – of course!
We quickly checked in to our room and then made a dash to the viewing area. Nothing. Never mind, we were in few a few treats later on after our game drive. Our room was really nice but we were disappointed to find that our window didn’t look out over the waterhole. It actually didn’t matter at all, because you can see animals from every viewpoint of the lodge, and we weren’t actually in our room very long anyway. We saw a few Waterbuck later when we got ready for bed. The bathroom was nice too, with those little extras like shampoo, shower gel and body crème. Good shower too.
After our game drive we returned to the viewing area outside the bar and saw literally hundreds of buffalo before us, some in the waterhole, some approaching it and some grazing on the plains. A magnificent sight. They eventually drifted off but then came along a herd of zebra. Wonderful!
The food and service at dinner was absolutely superb and we ate at a table overlooking the floodlit waterhole. We watched over the waterhole yet again after dinner. We slept very well in the comfortable beds surrounded by the mosquito nets. No sign of bugs anywhere here though. We were careful to make sure the bedroom window was shut. Didn’t want any unwanted visitors during the night. i.e. monkeys!
Breakfast was good (followed by watching elephant at the waterhole) the staff is excellent and staying here is such a treat. I’m actually envious of you who are now reading this review because I know what you have in store for you. Would love to go back one day.
