“A little gem in the Rift Valley”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 September 2011

We stayed 2 nights at this beautiful property hidden in a secluded area of the Soysambu Conservancy in the Rift Valley in September and thoroughly loved the property. On arrival we were welcomed with fruit cocktails and finger biting and then escorted to our African style hut. the 'huts' are spacious and beautifully appointed with large beds, 2 sinks in the bathroom and flushing toilets and a verandah where one can relax and just view the vast expansive 'natural' gardens. On one night we opted to go for a night game drive and this was an amazing experience - ants never interested me but the guide had a fabulous story to tell about the Harvester Ants and we also saw the 'African Kangaroo' as the guide put it refering to the African Spring Hare that jumps like a kangaroo. The food included calamari and lobster - yes, lobster! Yolanda, the chef even came to ask if we liked the food and wanted more. Thank you to Joseph, the camp manager and all the staff who were so friendly and hospitable and made our visit such a memorable one. I would highly recommend this camp to anyone with or without a family. EXCELLENT!

“Nice place-shame about the booking manager”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 September 2011

My wife and I recently stayed for a last-minute 2-day break in August 2011. While our initial plan was to camp as usual, the rains in the preceding week made us consider the cottage option. Based on a verbal quotation which reduced my rate from $245 to $145 and my wife( who is kenyan) at KShs 10,00 we duly decide to upgrade.
From arrival, the staff were very friendly and accomodating without being overbearing and for once my wife enjoyed the food. The 'cottage' was comfortable and the overall facilities were just what was required.
However, the shock came at time of checkout: we were presented witha bill at the full rate of $245 and a nominal 10% discount for the basic tent that we were decanted into on the second night as the cottage had been prior booked! All of the previous charm and pleasantness disappeared from the booking manager, who hung up on our phone discussion. A pleasant stay was ruined by this fraudulent approach and by his failure to present the booking confirmation and rates at our time of arrival, which has combined to ensure that we do not give them repeat business and have warned out friends against, recommending other places that we have stayed instead.

“Sweet little place and great service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 August 2011

I stayed 2 nights in July with my family in two adorable huts in this camp. The huts have great beds and bathrooms and are designed with very good taste in a nice mix of African and modern style. It is an extremely quiet place and in the night it is great to hear the animals around. Electricity is on generator until around midnight and afterwards the huts use candlelight. During the tropical winter the night can get quite cold (8-10 C), but while you are having dinner they put you hot water bottles in the bed and believe it or not they stay warm almost the whole night. Living in these huts with the candles and the bed warmers is a great romantic experience.

The people at Mbweha are very friendly and the service is outstanding. The food is excellent and if you want more they give you more. We had every evening twice the soup and my kids had one evening twice the excellent stake.

There is a great and very big fireplace between the bar and the restaurant where people gather before and after dinner. It is an excellent place to have a drink and make contacts.

I agree with other reviewers, that the place is a bit off the map and it takes about 45 minutes to get to the Lake Nakuru National Park, but this will change once the road, which is currently under construction, will be finalized.

I have been in Kenya to Samburu, Maasai Mara and Lake Nakuru and I want to tell you I am very happy we've seen Lake Nakuru. There have been plenty of flamingoes, but also lions and great rhinos, which are best spotted here. If I will visit Lake Nakuru again, I would stay at Mbweha again.

Room Tip: I think the huts with 2 separate beds have one queen size and a single, so excellent for a family wi...

“Great design and amazing confort and service on the bush”

We reached the place from an organized tour with no preliminary ideas on the location. It came to be an amazing experience in all senses. It took unfortunately around 30mins drive on a construction road to the Lake Nakury Reserve. Once the road is finished, that's the best choice: Romantic, service, luxurious, local flavours. Fantastic!!

“A lovely place a little bit out of the way ...”

The Mbweha Camp also belongs to the antua-enkop group (as Elephant Bedroom, Tipilikwani and Mara Ngenche). We stayed there for 2 nights.
It is unfenced and located in the Soysambu Conservancy, about 15 minutes drive to the Nderit Gate to enter Lake Nakuru NP. I must add, that the road from the entry of the Soysambu Conservancy to the gate was under construction during our visit in february 2011. On our way from the road to the camp we could spot some animals like gazelles and zebras.
The only disadvantage is the location outside the park, but the rest was very nice.

Beside a main building, where you have the well-stocked bar and a hudge lounge area with an open fireplace, different sitting areas and the restaurant, you can find 10 different styled cottages. The complete compound looks very well and you can find different plants and flowers. If you are lucky you can spot a lot of different birds and also some animals e.g. different types jackals.

On our arrival we got a cold drink, a cold towel and also some delicious finger food. After a short briefing we were brought to our cottage.
The stone-built cottages are in a very good condition. There was a big and comfortable bed with a hudge mossie-net, a small table, a nice daybed on the veranda and also a bathroom with shower, washbasin and a flushing toilet. Everything worked very well. You have also enough space for your things.

Electricity is available for certain times but you can charge your batteries at the bar/reception. I loved the style of our cottage very much and we felt very comfortable.
Hot water is provided as per your wish and plenty of it. The shower worked very good.

The staff was as well-trained and friendly as at the Elephant Bedroom Camp and we felt also very welcome.
There is no pool, but during our stay they started to build bathtubs on the verandas of the cottages which might be a nice idea.
We did not miss it because there have been so nice places to relax and for us a pool is no need on safari.

Food was of good choice and quality. Not as good as at the Elephant Bedroom, but still plenty and very nice.
Breakfast was served buffet style, lunch 3 courses and dinner 4 courses a la carte with different choices.
Coffee and Tea is served at certain times during the day, but if you wish to have a cup of coffee at the fireplace – hakuna matata….

Service was great and everything was very clean.
We did not need mobile phones or internet access, but we could see from others, that these services are available and worked well.

They are offering some different activities like bush walks, sundowners or night game drive, but because we arrived there after 6 days safari and still had some time on safari, we did not use them.
Also laundry service is provided.

In the past we stayed at the Lake Nakuru Lodge and the Sarova Lion Hill Lodge. In September 2010 we discovered the Maili Saba and we personally prefer the smaller and not so overcrowded places despite the single-entry rule considering the park fees for Lake Nakuru.
We did both times an evening game drive and a full day game drive with packed lunch on the next day.

If you are searching for a small place with comfortable rooms, great staff and service and nice food, than it is worth to have a look at this place. We enjoyed our stay there in february 2011 very much and I hope to be able to return sometimes in the future…

Room Tip: All cottages looked very nice
