Whilst at Sukhothai we just turned up at Orchid Hibiscus Guest House and negotiated a price of 1200 THB per night with the condescending italian. The bungalow was clean and tidy surrounded by exotic wild life, trees and palms that most zoo's would be proud of!! He was unable to provide us with a cycle or entice us to partake in his “incredible breakfast” for 100 THB but he did give us a very brief talk on the highlights around Sukhothai from a photocopied map.
After 2 days we decided to move to the Old City Guesthouse for the following reasons :-
The Old City was approx 50 yards from the historic park and not 2 Km like Orchid.
The Old City was 500 THB per night and not 1200 THB even though the bungalow was of similar size.
The Old City provided us with 4 bottles of free water each day and also a TV, both of which were missing at Orchid.
The internet at Old City was free, like the rest of Asia, but Orchid boss decided to charge 40 THB per hour.
The Old City was right in the heart of the local restaurants.
The staff at Old City were extremely friendly and provided us with useful information although their English was poor.
We didn't have mosquito nets around the beds, that were at Orchid, but did we managed to borrow a zapper that managed to fry all but one elusive mosquito.
Scores on the board :- 6/10 for Orchid and 9/10 for Old City
