Whilst in Thailand we stayed at some fantastic 5 star hotels in Koh Samui, Krabi & Bangkok & I must say that Koh Tao Cabanas were actually one of my favourites. Yes It is very different to some of the hotels we stayed in but that's what I loved. All the other hotels were amazing but you could be anywhere in the world where as here I actually felt like I was in Thailand & this sort of accommodation is what it should be all about! Our room was huge, the bed very comfy, loved the outdoor shower (just keep the lights off and candels on to avoid getting bitten), great view from our balcony. It really was all very beautiful. The restaurant was very nice with a great view. The food was great too. There's also some good restaurants and bars just a walk along the beach incase you want to venture out a bit. I really would recommend staying here and enjoyed every bit of my stay and wish we had stayed on longer!

We enjoyed staying here. 1 of my husband's favorite things was the outdoor shower & toilet. It was decorated nicely. Size is not huge but acceptable. Loved the view and nice to have our own hammock. Breakfast was yummy, beautiful restaurant. We walked to the bars & restaurants on the beach, Fizz lounge was 10 minutes away and great. The staff was not too friendly here but it was fine.

After staying at some fantastic hotels in Koh Samui and Koh Phangan our family moved on to Koh Tao Cabanas. It seems a little threadbare compared to the other hotels. The hut we stayed in had spiders and lots of mosquitos. The linen was not cotton and the place had a general air of neglect.
The staff were very friendly but i suspect that the hotel was missing a good manager.
There was no pool but one being constructed so perhaps it's the start of a refurbishment.
A number of the quests we spoke to complained that their orders from the restaurant etc never were what was ordered.
It is a lovely location on Sairee Beach.
All in all i would NOT recommend Koh Tao except to youngsters in their 20's looking to learn to dive.
The whole place has been overdeveloped in a ramshackle way and there was even, a "girlie" bar not too far from the hotel.
If i was young and wanted to go i would stay at the Sairee Hut which has a nice pool and the accomodation was quite new.
Sorry for the negativity as i really love Thailand and it's people but they really know how to exploit beautiful locations.
We did enjoy our trip there but for families there are so many other more beautiful locations.

A very great place with exceptional accomodation. We had the biggest bungalow for the 4 of us, 2 kids, 2 adults, just awesome. Was expensive for Thai standards but was the best accomodation I have stayed in, the view is breath tking and restaurant is excellent, the service was top class also...2 people were exceptional to us, both Burmese staff from the kitchen, one named Htoun and a girl named Sand, they befriended our children and made every part of our time at Cabana great.....can't say a bad word about it...if you want great accomodation and a memeory to last forever, and are happy to pay a bit extra, definitely consider this place.....
