“disgusting”

Not much positive to write about this place. Some of the staff are friendly. They have Wifi. That's about it.

As for the rest--Coral Bay is one of the worst places I have ever stayed during 3 months in all of S/E Asia.

Took a bungalow with a shared bathroom. Bungalow and bathroom were equally disgusting and inhospitable.

Bungalow still had dirty sheets from the previous guest. The sheets were covered in sand. There was no top sheet--just a very small (about 1m sq), dirty blanket. The very uncomfortable bed and pillows reeked of mold. The roof had several sizable holes in it. The mosquito net had quite a few large holes in it. The light bulbs along the path and rocks to the bungalow were all burned out or broken, making climbing over the rocks at night less than easy or safe.

The shared bathroom was not something I would wish upon an enemy. It was dirty and disgusting. There was no place to set anything down or hang anything. The only place to put your clothes and toiletries while you shower is on the dirty floor--with no protection from the shower or water. There was one small POS plastic shelf, below the mirror, that was barely hanging off the wall, at a steep angle, making it completely useless.

The worst part of Coral Bay is the awful, loud music that the farang who run the Coral Bay beach bar blast directly down the beach all day and night. The music is horrible. And the music is horribly loud (you can hear it all the way at the other end of the beach). Coral Bay shows no concern, respect or regard whatsoever for the three other bungalow operations in Haad Khom, their guests (or even CB's own guests). Almost of which have traveled halfway around the world to enjoy one of the best beaches on KPN.

Out of the 4 bungalows operating in Haad Khom, Coral Bay is the worst.

I would have given them 1 star is some of the staff weren't friendly.

“Easy going animal surrounded place”

This place is something special. The road stops behind this resort. After that it is a sandy / jungle road. (It leads to Bottle Beach after a hike of 2 hours). So pretty outcasted, very far from the nigtlife and shopping area. You need to rend a bike. There is a beach right in front of the resort, no more dan 10 sec. walk. Food is great. And there a lot of sweet animals: a husky, a little dog, a lovely pig, beautifull birds etc. Also for small children it is a nice place (till age of 5 I think). The negative thing is.. if you are taller then 1.70m the beds are terrible small. And if you'll desire for airco don't go. Because the fan.. is not all that.

“The reason to come to Thailand...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 December 2009

I cannot impress enough how wonderful this resort is..

I had originally come to Koh Phangan for a wedding and was staying on Leela Beach (the quieter side of Had Rin) - once the nuptuals had been done and the happy couple had ventured off to Koh Lipe I decided to get my rough guide out and pick a more secluded spot on the island - finally deciding on Haad Khom.

Firstly - it is a little out of the way (this was a bonus for me!) so we had to rent some scooters and take a ride up toward Chaloklum (40 mins or so) to the north of Phangan. Then the road ended..ooop's. A little nervously we decided to persevere and follow the jungle road to the beach. It was worth it!

The resort is basic - and cheap. But clean, all the bungalows have their own toilets and running water, mozzie nets and electricity from 5pm till midnight. Prices when we went ranged from about 300 to 650 baht. No complaints at all- lets face it - you dont go on holiday to spend it in your room! We even had a curious Tokay Gecko living in our room which intially made me nervous but consequently killed any nasty's that came near by! I

The surrounding area is lovely and clean, well kept and secluded..the beach is delightful and quiet, 2 other resorts and a beach bar. The water is clean and the reef (once you get past the dead coral and the sea cucumbers!) is close buy and teeming with interesting fist etc for snorkelling.

The best thing here though was the service - friendly, great food, laid back and genuine. The first night we were there the electricity generator broke..oh not you might say..But with a little help from the staff we were helped down to the main restaurant/bar where we sat down by candlelight, brought a free chang and nibbles for the inconvenience..the staff in the open kitchen were cooking with head torches (brilliant) and brought us beautifully cooked fresh fish and chips thai style. A german holiday maker sat nearby singing Bob Dylan on his guitar while the staff cane round to welcome all the new guests and make conversation. By the next day the electricity was back on and no further issues.

Other additional facilities - bikes for rent, free transfers to the port, free snorkelling gear and book exchange. And staff genuinely happy to help!

A stay i will never forget - thankyou for making it wonderful for us.

“Coral Bay Bungalows, Haad Khom, Ko Phangan”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 November 2007

I really enjoyed my stay at Coral Bay Bungalows at Haad Khom.
It's probably one of the last 'real' (old school) resorts left on the island. It's calm and relaxed, no full-moon, half-moon or all-inclusive guests. It's quiet, private and laid-back.
The electricity only runs from the evening until midnight.
With the threat of Ko Phangan turning into a strip mall like Ko Samui (yuk!), it is nice that there is still a refuge like Coral Bay Bungalows. I hope it will never change. No room service, no internet, but great food, terrific water sports, motor scooter rental and a friendly staff.
