“Our own private lagoon - March 2010”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 September 2011

Cookies Salad was a great escape after the intense bustle of Bangkok. We felt like we had our own private beach oasis. We stayed in the room on the very top, right corner and it was just perfect. We had a beautiful view and a hammock to swing in while we weathered out the rain we had our first day there. The trek up to the top part of the hotel is pretty steep but it's not that bad. I recommend bringing a small flashlight in case you wander around at night as the pathway and stairs aren't very lit up. The restaurant had good food and there were some other nice options if you take a short walk down the beach. The staff were pretty friendly and helpful as far as getting rides places, etc. They picked us up from the ferry when we arrived and dropped us off as well, as it's pretty far north from where the ferry comes in. The setting is beautiful. There weren't many people there when we went (there were protests happening in Bangkok at the time) so the hotel was quiet and the pool area always had a chair, although their lounge chairs aren't very comfortable, so we'd usually go to the resort next door and lay on theirs with cushions! ha. I'm not sure if it would be different during a busier time. I wouldn't recommend staying in the room right over/next the pool (unless maybe you have kids in tow), as I think it would be pretty loud with people and kids splashing under you.
If you are feeling adventurous, ask some of the locals how to get to the bar up the hill behind the beach that is in a tree. We saw a local Thai band playing reggae and ska and it was the most fun night we had in Thailand!
If there were direct flights straight to Koh Phangan my house in the US, I would go back to this place in a heartbeat! (our train trek from Bangkok was quite the experience, you may want to inquire about flying if you're not up for the night train). It's a beautiful spot and perfect if you want to get away from it all!

“Perfect holiday”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 August 2011

We travel to Asia every year for at least a month and have stayed in many hotels of many standards. Cookies rates up there at the top. Fantastic location, the best staff you could hope to meet let alone look after you. Aom the owner is so helpful and business-like. She is kind attentive and helpful.

Food is great, view is spectacular, rooms spacious and stylish. If you are going to Ko Phangan you would be mad not to choose Cookies. Would love to go back one day. Thank you Aom and the rest of staff for the lovely holiday. Howie, Paula, Ethan and Reuben.

“Amazing, Fabulous, Relaxing Didn't want to leave.....”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 August 2011

I LOVED Cookies!
From the moment we arrived I felt so relaxed and at peace. The staff are fabulous, always cheery and smiling and nothing is too much trouble. I loved the bar/restaurant area with a stunning view of the beach, the food was really really good and cheap, the cocktails are wonderful, even the music they play in the bar area is spot on! They have a dog, it looks a bit scabby but he is lovely and friendly.I just can't fault the place at all. The pool is lovely and just the right size, they have lots of loungers and these great bed like wooden chill out spaces too right by the pool/beach.
We stayed in the top floor sea view room 303. Large room with a kingsize bed/mosquito net, decent size bathroom, fridge, TV and a large balcony complete with hammock and an amazing view of the bay. Yes there are lots of steps to climb but its so worth it for the view and I just saw it as my daily exercise!
The resort is so peaceful and relaxing. The area has a few bars/restaurants but its not a place for partying. The beach was lovely and great for snorkelling too. We hired a scooter and explored the island and I am so glad we chose Haad Salad and especially Cookies.

“Heaven on Earth, Can't wait to go back!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 August 2011

Cookies was one of the highlights of our trip. Haad Salad is a gorgeous beach and we felt so lucky to stay at Cookies. The service was amazing and the atmosphere was relaxed and happy. Couples, backpackers, families, everyone was smiling and happy at Cookies.

We stayed in Seaview Bungalow #9. The perfect walk up the hill to get a little exercise after eating some of Cookies delicious food. We loved our porch hammock and lovely view. Everyone at Cookies cares- from the personal greeting to the fantastic food and staff- it was just amazing. Try the garlic pepper shrimp, Pad Thai, and Vegetable Spring Rolls- we wish we could go back right now!

“Disappointing on several levels”

My decision to choose this resort was based on its Trip Advisor rating, so I thought it important to provide feedback of our experience. This was the last place we stayed in Thailand in a three week trip and, unfourtunately, it was the poorest of the four places we visited. I'd originally made a booking through the Booking.com website but on arrival I wanted to check the alternative rooms available. The manager there was very evasive to this enquiry and told me that all the other rooms were more expensive than the one I'd requested - something I found hard to believe. Regardless, I went with the original reservation. The room itself was spacious and featured an excellent shower (one of the best we experienced). Unfortunately, however, the room was dirty and looked like it had not been cleaned thoroughly in some time. The sheets were stained and there were cobwebs. I got the impression that they perhaps were not as concerned with this in low season. Worst of all was that the room was not visited by a cleaner at all during our three night stay. The food at the restaurant was poor. I didn't mind so much that they were operating on a much smaller low season menu, but the choices were not very appetising. To its credit, the resort enjoys excellent views over the beach. Annoyingly, on our final night, there was a power cut which killed electricty to most of the resort for the majority of the night. Not necessarily the resort's fault, but I was amongst several guests pacing around the resort in the early hours of the morning, looking for staff (of which there were none on duty) or fuse boxes, so we could try and address the problem. Not a life and death matter, of course, but a number of us speculated what would have happened had there been a fire or other more serious matter - we had no way of contacting any staff to request assistance. Cookies Salad is not the worst resort in the world, but our overall experience was very disappointing. There were a number of families staying there and the staff seemed very good with kids, but it seemed that their customer service was restricted to cooing at babies.

Room Tip: I'd avoid booking online in low season.
