“A poor hotel overall.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

There are definitely good things about this hotel. The location on a sweeping bay is beautiful. The rooms are of a good standard and the spa is wonderful. Indeed the first impression is very good.

But then things start to go wrong. The staff at the reception are awful. They make you feel like every request is too much trouble and can't wait to get back to their own private conversations amongst themselves.

The breakfast is poor. You have to literally brush the flies off your food before you pick it up. No effort is made to keep the food covered and cool even though clueless staff are standing around everywhere tapping out text messages on their mobile phones. They are clearly undertrained.

To make matters worse the hotei itself actively tries to rip you off. For example they charge far higher than the standard rate for transfers and taxis to other parts of the island. It’s a cheap way of making money unfairly.

Overall give this place a miss (except the spa!)

“Tropical Paradise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2012

This place offers 5 star service at a 3 star price.

We arrived in the early evening in an open air reception to cold drinks and towels. To our surprise we were upgraded 2 room levels from a Garden View to a Deluxe Sea View.

The rooms are very comfortable, not necessarily outdated as other reviews mention, but not brand new either.

The property itself is beautiful, lush gardens, pathways etc. The beach itself is a bit rocky at low tide, but only for about 25% of the beach length, and at high tide the beach is completely sandy access into the water.

Pool area is very beautiful, but keep in mind this resort is extremely child friendly so if you are looking for quiet the beach might be better for you.

The service here is beyond amazing for the price. All staff know your name, know your drink preferences and favourite table at the restaurant after only a day or two here. Everyone is unfailingly friendly and always willing to help out with any problem you may have.

The food at the restaurant is good, and the variety is sufficient to the point that we were not overly bored eating here for a whole week. Full complimentary breakfast is a nice touch as well, served with a smile.

We were a bit worried that coming from the luxury Hansar in BKK, we would be disappointed here, but that could not be further from the truth. For less than half the price we found the service more personalized and genuine.

One warning to those who are looking to have an adventurous vacation. This resort is at the southern tip of Ko Lanta. While multiple orders of magnitude more beautiful than the commercialized northern end. It can feel a bit isolated.

We did not feel safe taking scooters (personal preference), so we found that exploring by Kayak (complimentary) and by foot was enough for us. Neighbouring beaches are beautiful and offer a variety of restaurants. However we spoke to other guests at the resort who were a bit less risk adverse and they found that the hotel was a great base for day trips around the island by scooter (really the only viable mode of transport around the island)

Another small issue is no fridge in the room. Being on a budget, we assumed that we could buy beer from the nearest 7-11 (not walkable) and store it - this was not the case. But we found that over the week we drank and ate like kings and only spent 250 USD on resort account, a pleasant surprise.

Adventures that are within walking distance include the hike to the waterfall. (Very easy despite what the locals will tell you), the national park, and the other beaches in the area.

All in all, we found this hotel to be excellent value for money given the quality of service and quality of room, and we would not hesitate at all to recommend this hotel to anyone who isn't looking for the backpacker party scene. We found the famed "Thai service culture" that everyone raves about here.

Room Tip: Deluxe sea view was great. Bungalows are very public and seemed a bit expensive.

“Mixed feelings... Slightly overrated also”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 January 2012

We've spent 5 nights at the end of our trip to thailand : we were looking for a calm and relaxing place and indeed we found a very (very) quiet place :)

After this week at Anda Lanta we really keep mixed feelings, so here we go for the good and... the bad :

GOOD
+ Large room, conformatable bed, big shower (really good after beach)
+ Good value
+ The room is properly cleaned every day, they change everything and add 2 bottles of water/day which is ok
+ The whole place looks very good : architecture is nice, well integrated into natural environnement
+ Quiet and relaxing environnement : feel like you're at the end of the world + good massage

and the booh...

- Well, let us be honest it's lost ! only 3-4 restaurants/bars outside, and 2 small tourists offices... (no supermarket or anything!) main reason is that this hotel is situated totally in the south of the island whereas the only town is at the top (near the pier)
- No Cable TV (only 3 english channels out of 8 total) and this is a bad point when there is not a lot to see just outside the hotel
- Totally buggy DVD player : we borrowed 3 DVDs but we were only able to watch one : remote control problems and then we asked reception to fix the issue : they took the remote control but we never got it back working ^^... it seems it wasn't their priority which really surprised us
- No phone to call reception : the first day toilet broke up (blocked), so we had to walk down the stairs and walk again just to tell them there was an issue with the toilet -> fortunately, after 30 minutes, people from repairing service was there and efficient.
- Bad synchro between bar and restaurant : people from the restaurant seemed lost when we move with our cocktails from the bar to a restaurant table near the beach to enjoy a drink...
- Beach which is near the hotel is rocky : I mean 70% of the beach is rocky. The 30 % left which are beautiful and clean are on the far left so you should know that you only have around 400 meters of true sandy beach available... though, as there is not so much people it is generally enough

Hope it helps!

“Don't do it”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

My boyfriend and I booked this resort thinking it would be an awesome experience. We were wrong. We arrived with high hopes and wanted so much to like this place yet couldn't. We arrived and were taken to our cabin. The room smelled very strongly of a musty old odor. It was so hot in there so I immediately went to the air conditioner and attempted to turn it on. It wasn't working properly and we had to get some of the staff to our room to fiddle with it, after about 15 minutes they finally got it to work. The room itself is EXTREMELY dated and is in bad need of a renovation. It looks like you stepped into a room from 50 years ago. There is no phone in the room which means if you need anything from the staff, you will need to make the long trek down to the main office.

At this point we decided to overlook everything so far and try to make the best of it. We made our way down to their one and only "restaurant" which is situated outside with a roof under it. The flies and mosquitoes are in a world of plenty. The food was bad, it's as if they reheat a frozen meal and serve that to you. It was probably one of the worst food I have had in all of Thailand during our trip. Even through this, we tried to make the best of things.

After eating there is really not much else to do. We decided to check out the beach. The beach area right outside our room was littered with rocks making it completely useless for swimming. We had to walk down to the neighboring resorts beach to have a normal swim spot without any rocks in the way. The beach really is not anything special. Considering the fact that we purposely picked such a far off island in search of wonderful beaches to stay at, this beach was quite lame. Water was murky and was not at all eye-popping like one would expect when staying at a secluded island resort. It did not at all have that "paradise feel" to it.

Don't even think about being able to venture out of the resort for things to do, there is nothing there. You are pretty much stuck in the resort.

Shortly after returning from the beach, it began to rain heavily and we were forced to our room with no resort provided entertainment. While in our rooms and watching the 3 available channels they have, the power kept going out repeatedly.

If this resort charged less for their rooms and called themselves what they really are which is a 2 star resort, then we would have no issues with anything because we would know what we are getting ourselves into. But considering how overpriced this resort really is, it is ridiculous how little is offered for what you're paying for. It's completely not worth it. This resort is the definition of 'overpriced'.

It was at this point that we decided we need to leave immediately. We were supposed to stay here for 5 nights and it was this first night we began making plans of our escape. We secretly looked up availability for other resorts and found a room available at the Sheraton on Krabi. We made our plans and escaped first thing in the morning. The van ride took 3 and a half hours to get there and it was worth every second. When we got to the Sheraton it was like a breath of fresh air and we are glad we acted so quickly to change around our plans otherwise we would have really ruined the tail-end of our vacation with this resort.

I do feel quite bad for this review because we wanted so much to like our experience with Anda Lanta but it was just impossible to do that. They need to make some serious changes and perhaps the first step would be to add some phones in the room and undergo some much needed renovations. I hope in the future Anda Lanta becomes a better resort offering more for their guests but right now, it leaves much to be desired.

“AMAZING”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 January 2012

We booked Anda Lanta on a whim and couldnt have been more pleased- we ended up extending out stay in Lanta because of how much we were enjoying this resort. We stayed in one of the garden bungalows which was spacious, clean and had a stunning bathroom. Even the soap and laundry here was amazing- I wish I could bottle the smell of this resort.
The staff were lovely and super helpful and even when we had an accident on one of the motorbikes we had rented from them and smashed the front light, they were amazing.
The food here was totally reasonably priced and while it was pretty basic good food, some dishes like the grilled squid ranked as our favorites of the trip.
There were a LOT of kids staying at this resort- which was a bit of a drag during mealtimes when there were always babies crawling on the floors etc.
