This place offers 5 star service at a 3 star price.
We arrived in the early evening in an open air reception to cold drinks and towels. To our surprise we were upgraded 2 room levels from a Garden View to a Deluxe Sea View.
The rooms are very comfortable, not necessarily outdated as other reviews mention, but not brand new either.
The property itself is beautiful, lush gardens, pathways etc. The beach itself is a bit rocky at low tide, but only for about 25% of the beach length, and at high tide the beach is completely sandy access into the water.
Pool area is very beautiful, but keep in mind this resort is extremely child friendly so if you are looking for quiet the beach might be better for you.
The service here is beyond amazing for the price. All staff know your name, know your drink preferences and favourite table at the restaurant after only a day or two here. Everyone is unfailingly friendly and always willing to help out with any problem you may have.
The food at the restaurant is good, and the variety is sufficient to the point that we were not overly bored eating here for a whole week. Full complimentary breakfast is a nice touch as well, served with a smile.
We were a bit worried that coming from the luxury Hansar in BKK, we would be disappointed here, but that could not be further from the truth. For less than half the price we found the service more personalized and genuine.
One warning to those who are looking to have an adventurous vacation. This resort is at the southern tip of Ko Lanta. While multiple orders of magnitude more beautiful than the commercialized northern end. It can feel a bit isolated.
We did not feel safe taking scooters (personal preference), so we found that exploring by Kayak (complimentary) and by foot was enough for us. Neighbouring beaches are beautiful and offer a variety of restaurants. However we spoke to other guests at the resort who were a bit less risk adverse and they found that the hotel was a great base for day trips around the island by scooter (really the only viable mode of transport around the island)
Another small issue is no fridge in the room. Being on a budget, we assumed that we could buy beer from the nearest 7-11 (not walkable) and store it - this was not the case. But we found that over the week we drank and ate like kings and only spent 250 USD on resort account, a pleasant surprise.
Adventures that are within walking distance include the hike to the waterfall. (Very easy despite what the locals will tell you), the national park, and the other beaches in the area.
All in all, we found this hotel to be excellent value for money given the quality of service and quality of room, and we would not hesitate at all to recommend this hotel to anyone who isn't looking for the backpacker party scene. We found the famed "Thai service culture" that everyone raves about here.
Room Tip: Deluxe sea view was great. Bungalows are very public and seemed a bit expensive.
