“As you would expect”

Good hotel for it's star rating. Located at the lower end of Long beach about 100 metres from the main road and as close to the beach as possible. we chose a seaview villa. (take that with pinch of salt!! but you could see it...just) well maintained, clean and large with good aircon. Breakfast not worth the the effort but will fill you up. Sun loungers go a bit too quickly in the morning!! but as the beach is so close this is no problem. A few restaurants and bars within walking distance along the quiet beach and a few more on the main road. To be honest go into Saladan for about 100bht (10 mins)by tuk tuk and there is plenty of restaurants there for the evening. Hotel seemed to be heavily populated with Scandinavians, as a tour company uses the hotel, but not sure where they went each evening as it was so quiet. Beach is great and clean. Boats leave for the islands about 9am from the beach in front of the hotel and return late afternoon. We opted for a motorbike for 3 days. This is really the only true way to travel the island and can be rented for 250bht per day from reception. Cheaper in Saladan (150-200bht). Alternatively you can hire a tuk tuk, one rides the bike while the others sit and enjoy the scenery. You can cover the length of the island in about 40-50mins and the south beaches are more remote, some rocky areas but very picturesque. Be aware that they do fine you for not wearing a helmet. 200bht was taken from me but to be honest very few seem to bother wearing them and the police seem quite polite about the whole thing.
One recommendation though if you're a bloke who fancies a wet shave. There is the brilliant barbers on the way into Saladan on the left. It is before you get to Saladan proper and is an old style place run by a women and used by the locals. For 50bht you will get the best shave ever! I promise. If you don't then it is because you went to the wrong place and they will charge closer to 200bht.

Room Tip: Get a room on the beach side as the ones at the rear of the hotel seem to overlook waste ground.

“Great familyhotel with fantastic location”

Very nice hotel! Clean, fresh, nice staff, big breakfast buffé, beatiful garden and a pool located right by the wonderful Long beach (very few people on the beach, almost as your own :-)) Easy to make trips both on the island (rent a car with driver) and on sea (take speedboat and go snorkling!). // Family Nystrom from Sweden

“No value for money, not as described”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 January 2012

Don't book this hotel! It is not as good as it seems. The rooms were old fashioned and dirty. Cleaning and other service poor. The breakfast was worst ever in Thailand. Trust me, I Have been in about 30 hotels in Thailand. This is my first review, because I really hope that other people will be as dissapointed as we were.

“Overpriced, No Value, Cheap Management”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 December 2011

It seems like this place was constantly trying to squeeze as much money as possible out of their guests. From the second we got there, this was the pattern.

We asked if they had a room available they said they only had one which was sea view and more expensive. When we were ready to walk, suddenly a more standard room became available, 1000 baht cheaper.

They charge for WiFi which doesn't even work well. No other hotel of the 6 we stayed in Thailand did this.

We needed help changing our flight. They charged us 15 baht a MINUTE. At the Bangkok hotel, the charge was 10 baht per CALL!

Lastly, we needed an early morning private ride to Krabi airport. They wanted 2500 baht, simply walk outside, talk to a cab driver and negotiate a better price of about 1800 baht.

The rooms and surroundings are nice, but then again so are the many other places in the same area.

This place might be OK for families who don't mind spending thoughtlessly, but would not recommend for budget conscious travelers or young couples who don't want to feel taken advantage of.

“Overpriced and no value for money!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 November 2011

On almost every hotel website you visit Hotel Casuarina is described as a professionally run hotel with a prime service.! If you call overcharging for rooms, staff with selected service and a almost non-english speaking restaurant staff professionally run, then yes Casuarina is absolutely in that category!
And don't even get me started on the fact that they charge for WI-FI! and it didn't even work properly. Everywhere else we traveled WI-FI was free, even in the most basic restaurants and in bars etc. It really just seems as they try to squeeze as much money as possible out of the guests.

We had rented a scooter for two days and the receptionist had advised it came with free gas and that they would be able to fill it up when returned the last day. When we checked out all of a sudden gas wasn't free and she asked if we could fill it up for them! When we said no they instead charged us (to much) to fill it up themselves.

Casuarina was highly disappointing, find somewhere else where you actually get good value. You can do a lot with your money in Thailand if you spend them right but Casuarina is definitely not the place to do it!

Room Tip: Choose a villa turned towards the beach. the "normal rooms" even with seaview is blocked b...
