“Awful room, terrible conditions, very rude management”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

Hello,

We stayed in the Narima at the end of January 2012. Im not sure where to start with this review. We moved out early next day as we could not stand the conditions. We spoke to 3 couples who did the same thing!!!

We are not very fussy customers and did backpacking while staying in some very simple accommodation, but this place is just very very overpriced for what it has on offer, its condition and customer service.

The Room: we were given very dirty room. The sheets in the bed were all stained. We only noticed that when we were going to bed at around 10pm, when we wanted the manager to have look at it, she started shouting at us and said that it was our choice to take that room, and then without taking any responsibility she send one of the staff (very young girl) to have a look at the place - she then told us that this room is not normally in their renting options - we were still charged 2500 THB for it. When the cleaners came to out room they brought with them 3 sheets to change the one we had, and all of them where dirty!!!

The Hotel: Everything is very very old and falling apart. The place is well overpriced, trust me, you can find much nicer, cleaner and well maintained hotel/bungalow for this price in Ko Lanta.
The chairs on our balcony where rotten and covered in mould, the doors next to the swimming pool have a hug he hole in them, everything there is falling apart.

What struck was the most, was the fact, that when we got to the other hotel, they already knew us!!!! They heard the story (but obviously from completely different angle - we were the bad guys), this just proves how terribly terribly poor their customer service is.

Also: breakfast is included, bt you have a limit of 200THB to spent, which gives you quite limited choice and you end up paying anyway...

I hope you will take that review into consideration when looking at booking at Narima...

“Very Nice”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2012

Narmia is great. At US$50 a night I would say it's Amazing. At US$150 I would say it's just OK. I paid US$150, big bucks forThailand.
Pros
- Beach is quite private and very nice
- Pool is great with great view to beach
- Overall jungle vibe is great
- Food and Beverage prices are fair
- Thai food is pretty good
- Restaurant and Beach bar service is very good.
- Overall very quiet and isolated.
- South end of Koh Lanta is quiet and beautiful
- A row bungalows have a great view..... Row B & C could be a little dark.
Cons
- The bed sheets feel like tent canvas.
- Western food including the entire breakfast menu is terrible. I sampled the entire menu and every time was a disappointment. Somehow even cornflakes were bad.

At checkout there were a few things on my bill that were not mine. I was made to feel as this was my fault. Not good.

Overall very good.

“Lovely Personal Experience, So Disappointed with the Room!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 January 2012

Just left The Narima in Koh Lanta, stayed 3 nights with my husband, ( In our 40s) would have stayed longer if the room had better facilities. We normally do 4* and above but this hotel had such good reviews on trip advisor we decided to give it go! (nothing wrong with lower star hotels, we just like a bit our comfort). We are currently travelling around Thailand and have stayed in 8 hotels so far. I will firstly tell you good things and then the so so good, but you must realise that we all have different expectations so i will just give you the facts...
GOOD THINGS:
STAFF: Excellent, lovely people, friendly and welcoming.
LOCATION: Lovely environment when you get there, lovely setup!
FACILITIES: Very nice pool overlooking beach, lovely little bar on beach, and the restaurant ( gathering area for everyone was very big and relaxing.
FOOD: Excellent, some of the best food we have had since we have been in Thailand.Very good value for the money
ROOMS: Nice partial sea views (thats all).
NOT SO GOOD THINGS;
STAFF: Nothing really they were all very nice.
LOCATION: Quite isolated, no shops, restaurants, bars etc within walking distance, you need transport to get to and from everything.
FACILITIES: The beach is private, quite small and full of huge rocks, quite dangerous when trying to get in for a swim. We didnt bother! went to another hotel to use the beach. The restaurant which doubles as reception, lobby, bar etc, is all open air, and quite stifling at times, especially whilst eating...there is no where indoors really at the hotel where you can sit to cool off, everything is open! The food however, as i mentioned early was fantastic.

Our main disappointment was the standard of the rooms. Even though they have tried to be eco friendly i think they take it to the limit.., if this is what you want then fine but i think they should charge eco friendly prices.(This in comparison to other hotels near by). Traditional Thai, very basic, and outdated and very unwelcoming. We arrived to a stifling hot room, felt as if we were in a wooden hut in the jungle! Although they had air-con, it seemed to take forever to cool the rooms down, and believe me they were hot. However, this was not the worst part, myself and my husband woke up the following morning bitten to hell by mosquitos. The bathroom is open air, in the middle of a small hillside jungle, and soon as you open the door to use shower or toilet, in they came.. the mossies. Why they donot enclose the bathroom for this reason i do not know!, the outdoor showers could not be appreciated as an outdoor dreamy shower as they are all cover by a straw roof, so dont see the point.

Just to add for you info if you are interested... WiFI free but only in public restaurant, no tea/coffee facilities in room, no TV... No nothing in the rooms really.....

Sorry Narima but although you have a lovely personal touch to the hotel and environment, i couldnt wait to get out of the room and into something a little more comfortable.

Room Tip: Rooms are so outdated! Such a Shame as this hotel could be extra special

“Lovely & relaxing, great food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 January 2012

Our 2nd visit & we'll come back. Firstly, the Thai food is some of the best on the island, all really fresh and great tasting, I 'd come here just to eat & I've dreamed about the beef with Thai basil and chilli since 2007 and wasn't disappointed, the same for the Penang prawn curry. Yes you can get cheaper food, but after doing a thai cookery course on lanta you really appreciate the subtle flavours and spicing. Yes the restaurant staff's English can be a bit sketchy, but who cares when the food's this good ! If you tire of Thai cuisine, they do a great club sandwich too.
Secondly, the rooms are great and have lovely high ceilings. Cheaper rooms are available on the island, but they won't be as comfortable and clean, with air con.
It's a really relaxing place with a great infinity pool and a quiet beach, we'll be back.

Room Tip: Beachfront rooms a little pricey, anywhere's good though.

“A fun hotel!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 January 2012

The Narima bungalow is a great resort, it’s facilities, which include spas, pools, scuba diving and snorkelling, are of course, and spaced out along the vast beach the hotel is sat on. Its rooms are small and airy with many windows for fantastic views of the beach. I’d say the only disadvantage would be the smaller bungalows which are blended into the natural surroundings using palm leaves and wood, especially with a family of five; it was a struggle fitting people into 2 bungalows. In the days there were a few activities you could choose from, which ranged from sitting on comfy chairs watching DVDs and eating ice cream to earning your open water license in the ocean with other divers. For the food choices, it was a limited choice; with a selected breakfast (no buffet dinner/breakfast) All together I thought it was a nice experience with very friendly staff and good security.
