“Relaxing and beautifull Resort on quiet island”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 August 2011

We stayed 4 nights in this resort. The service and rooms were really good. The rooms were big and clean an had a nice balcony with a bad en lounge bed. We were there in the low season so it was really quiet on the resort and on koh lanta. The beach was near by and we think that in high season it most be paradise.

“Nice Website Does Not Reflect Hotel Quality”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 May 2011

I arrived at the beginning of low season to a mostly empty hotel. The concern seemed to be that the staff depart on time. Everything shut down at 9 - restaurant, bar, lobby. Everything. They even turned the lights off while I was sitting in the lobby working, since the WiFi doesn't reach to the rooms. They also insisted on turning all exterior lights off at 9... so if you were walking back to your room later than that, you'd be doing so in the pitch black. Not very safe.

My room was basic at best, not at all like the villas shown on the website. It was passable; but it smelled moldy and there were handprints and smudges on the walls. Nothing an easy renovation couldn't fix.

The restaurant was mediocre. Expensive for Thailand and basically tasteless.

I will say the pool area was a lot of fun. Being able to walk directly out of your room into the pool was new to me, and probably the hotel's only highlight. Though if you're looking for peace, quiet and romance, the pool rooms will probably be a bad choice. If there are any children nearby, you will awake to shrieks as they splash right outside your door.

“Distinctly average”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 April 2011

We spent 3 nights in this '4 star' resort after staying a few nights in a '3 star' place, and we were surprised to find that the 3-star resort was better in nearly every possible way.

The food at Lanta Sand is okay, but not stellar - and they have the cheek to add 10% service charge (service? What service?!) and 7% tax to every bill - even though most other resorts on Ko Lanta have the prices included.

They advertised 'free wifi', but it turns out their network is patchy at best. One of our travel companions (who needed wifi for work) had to swap rooms because there was no wifi in her bungalow - and even when it was working, it was achingly slow.

The rooms were OK, but overall, the service level varied between 'bad' and 'non-existent' - there are much better resorts on Ko Lanta, and Trip Advisor is a good place to find one.

Room Tip: Go to another resort.

“beautiful setting, but complete lack of management”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2011

Arriving at 8 p.m. at the dark lobby we were welcomed by badly trained staff. Our two balcony rooms were not available, so we were given a villa and a mini-suite, so we did not complain. The next day our daughter and her fiancée had to change into the balcony room, which was very poorly designed and had no bathtub, only a tiny pool on the little terrace, which badly needed cleaning.
The person responsible for the beach chairs made a big business: he blocked all available deck chairs with towels, and "sold" them to all new arriving clients. For a tip he then was willing to block the seats for the following day.
The worst part was the lack of supervision at the only restaurant, food items and drinks on the menu were not always available, and the European menu was poor, while the Asian dishes were good. Staff did their best, but again lacked training and supervision and very poor English.
Twice cockroaches in the bathroom, and very dim lights in the bathrooms. Obviously the owner only thinks on how to save money, since he uses energy saving lightbulbs so you cannot see your face in the mirror.
We learned that the owner lives and works in Krabi, two hours away. But what is really shocking is that the manager herself lives and works in Phuket, even further away.
What a pity for the lovely garden , it could be such a nice hotel.

“Nice but needs some attention to detail”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 December 2010

Stayed there for 4 days over Christmas. We stayed in a room as no bungalows available. The room was clean and nice, but I found it quite noisy (you could hear the people next door, upstairs and in the hallway very easily). Beach is beautiful and well-located. They need to invest in some new sun beds and umbrellas as the sun beds are starting to rot and the umbrellas were in poor condition. However, the staff was very nice and the hotel itself is quite pleasant. Best part is the location at the top end of the long beach.
