“Good location and guide for exploring the park”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 March 2009

We stayed here 2 nights (USD$25/night). We paid extra for the nicest room with AC. It was mostly clean, but had a few mosquitoes. The bathroom had a bathtub and handheld shower with hot water. We had to ask twice before they sent someone to the store to buy toilet paper. They must think us Westerners are crazy for expecting toilet paper in our hotel rooms. One of the brothers who runs the place is also a naturalist and was our guide at Kaleadeo National Park. He did a great job and we saw many neat birds and animals. They served food upon request which was tasty, but slow to come and rather small portions. The women of the house were rarely seen, but the brothers had a hired “working boy” to help them. He was 13 years old, illiterate and unable to speak any English. The brothers referred to him as the “lazy” boy and didn't treat him very well. It made us sad because he was nice to us, pointed out monkeys on the rooftop and seemed to just want to act like a kid. The room was mostly quiet except for nearby barking dogs. The location was very close to the park entrance. Overall, this room was slightly overpriced for what we got.

“Could do a lot better next time. they need to get their act together”

Booked Super Deluxe Room, their best, and arrived to find dirty sheets and duvet, no towels, no soap or toilet paper. Expressed suprise when we asked for clean sheets. When I booked their website showed rate as 600 Rs per night, but they wanted to charge 1000Rs. Had to insist they stuck to the quoted rate. Brother Arun an excellent and very knowledgeable guide for the wildlife reserve which was spectacular. Food simple vegetarian but well cooked. Would not stay there again.

“Comfortable base”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 September 2008

Arrived here in February for a few days. The two brothers Arun and Tarun run this simple guesthouse. Arun picked us up from the station, which is a 2km ride, even though he was attending a wedding at the time. Rooms are of good size, comfortable and clean with showers . Food is Indian fare, mainly vegetarian, tasty and reliable and Asul is very prompt to serve at any time of day. Very worthwhile as there were no reliable restaurants as such in Bharatpur. We visited Agra by train (1 hour) and Fatepur Sikri by bus. We also visited the Keoladeo reserve under Tarun’s expert guidance. Much time can be spent on the balcony chatting with fellow travellers and our hosts who were on hand to advise in this very different country.

  • Liked — Friendliness and advice. walking to Keoladeo
  • Disliked — distance from train station. (allow 30mins)

“Highly recommended!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 January 2008

We stayed in this small family run guest house for 4 nights during a 2 week tour of Rajasthan. An excellent choice - Arun, Aso et al were very friendly and accommodating.

We arrived and left at sensible times, but during our stay numerous other short-staying guests were lifted and dropped at the bus/rail stations in town at all hours.

Facilities are basic, but the rooms are clean and comfortable. Hot showers, etc.

Home cooked food is excellent - some of the best of our time in India.

A great base to visit Fatephur Sikri and Agra, obviously, but worth trying Mathura (birthplace of Hindu Lord Khrishna) and the temples at Vrindavan also. And Tarun, Arun's brother, proved to be a very knowledgeable guide around the nearby bird park - a treat even for short-sighted ornithological ignoramuses like us.

And all at a very reasonable price. Look no further!

“Excellent Guest House, Close to Bird Sanctuary”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 February 2006

This small guest house (it now has 8 rooms after a recent expansion, up from 5) is well covered and reviewed in a numer of guide books, so my fiance and I reserved a double room (500Rs per night) for a couple of nights in Jan 06 whilst visiting the Keoladoo Bird Sanctuary.

The room we had was large, well decorated, clean and the big double bed very comfortable. The bathroom was excellent with good shower - (bring your own loo paper though).

Friendly owner offers free pick ups from the station to the guest house which is out of the main town about 200m from the Sanctuary entrance and the home cooked food and drinks (cooked by a seemingly invisble collection of ladies working downstairs) are served on a very pleasant roof terrace.

They will organise cheap bike hire, although saddle comfort questionable) for the bird sanctuary and we enjoyed our stay very much. Would recommend to anyone - just remember nights in Jan get quite chilly so bring fleece!!
