“lovely views, shame about the accommodation”

We had a warm welcome and we were given lots of information about the spa and hotel.
The hotel is in a beautiful setting on a very steep slope.
Our room, a garden suite, was very spacious and had a balcony with a stunning view it was quite breathtaking!
However the decor and furnishings of the room were not a good standard. Everything looked worn and tired. The bathroom was particularly horrible and was not clean. We were disappointed over all and felt that the hotel did not offer value for money.
The staff at the restaurant were welcoming and the service was good. The food was OK.

Sir,

I do understand your disappointment though you are full of praise for the location, service and the spacious design of the cottage.

Though I am bit confused about your remarks about the furnishing which was actually replaced few months back, I will be looking in to details of your dissatisfaction. However, for your kind information, the furniture will be replaced by the end of this month.

I am thankful to you for taking time to review our property and for giving us a chance to improve it further. Review of a widely traveled guest will be taken with most respect.

I hope you would appreciate the design of the property which is built in a most difficult terrain with all the care and concern for nature. This way our property is unique and not comparable with other properties you have reviewed.

“Tranquility at its best”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 February 2012

2 days after back from a long road trip, my friend insisted me to visit Munnar with family.. he was newly wed and was on honeymoon spirits..I was not willing for it at that situation, but later on i agreed for a 1 Night nd 2 Days trip..
We got our rooms booked in blackberry hills.. As we arrived the resort, we had a warm welcome.. The staff informed us that it will take some time for arranging our rooms.. So we decided to walk around the resort..
On seeing the location i was just mesmerised..The view of the valley was simply great..It was soo refreshing that we decided to spend the entire day in the resort..By the time, our rooms were ready..The cottage was very clean with beautifully, creatively decorated bed. Bathrooms were also very clean..The living area of our cottage opened out into a balcony with breathtaking views. A couple of arm chairs were located on the balcony...after checkin we went for trekking through the valley .. the trek path was really beautiful.. there is a sunrise point and a stawberry farm onroute.. but unfortunately we couldn't see any stawberries as it was not the cultivation season... inside the resort,we had our dinner in Hornbill restaurant with an awsome view of the valley.. food was okk... the staff requested our permission to enter our rooms for honeymoon decorations..the arrangements was well organised and more than what we expected...
Next morning, as part of the activities involved in our package, i got a chance for rock climbing..i throughly enjoyed as i was doing it for the first time..later we heard from the staff that there were more activities....felt like being there for a couple of days more, but didnt have the bookings... saying goodbye from blackberrry,i wrote up in my mind that i will be here again for more to explore(mainly stawberries) and more to enjoy...

Thank you Sir, for your sweet review and generous remarks. Positive comments like yours would definitely help to motivate our team.

I am sorry that you missed our strawberry field. During your visit perhaps it was not harvesting time but you could have visited the fields which is located in the middle of the estate. Hope during your next visit I will be able to take you to the organic farm where the surrounding view of the valleys and tea plantions is amazing.

“Moderate hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012 via mobile

I stayed here to celebrate my first aniversary in munnar and i have found the hotel really good, except the fact that there is problem with hot water in the room. Even the towels in the washroom were stinking and not clean. Good for couples.

Sir,

Thank you very much for your fine words about Blackberry Hills.

Application of heavy dose of chemical whiteners will improve colour of towels and linen. But Sir, our policy is to replace them after a cycle of conventional washing instead. Still it is very serious that our valuable guest felt it ‘stinking’ and hence I have already instructed to remove the entire lot.

I am sure that you would have bestowed us 5/5 marks in the absence of the above problem.

“Blackberry Hills is splendid”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

My wife and I stayed at this resort this week. We booked the honeymoon-themed "Megha-malika", a cozy rustic cottage located on a steep hillside. The location is easily the best, from the standpoint of scenic views, and being away from the dust and noise of Munnar town. The cottage faces a massive valley, with magnificent views that stretch miles, with misty mountain ranges fading into the horizon. I am not sure whether all cottages will offer these panoramic views, however.

The room was cozy with red tile flooring, glass windows with adequate curtains for privacy, and the terracotta paintings and murals were a nice touch. The bathroom was good and clean, with hot water shower, excellent water pressure albeit slightly cramped.

The bed was wide and strongly built, and the linen, clean.

The living area of our cottage opened out into a balcony with breathtaking views. A couple of arm chairs were located on the balcony, a thoughtful touch.

The "Saga of Blackberry hills" -a book we found at the cottage offered a detailed account of the history and ecology of the area, albeit written in the form of an amateurish postgraduate dissertation rather than in reader-friendly format. Nice effort, anyway.

Hornbill- the restaurant was the best part of our stay. Located on the steep hillside it offered great views of the deep expansive valley beneath, much like those from the window-seat of an aircraft. Food was good, and the service was courteous. We especially loved a gentle reminder call to our cottage from the restaurant in the morning, that they were closing soon for breakfast. In-room dining was also available, though we chose to dine at the Hornbill.

A campfire is lit at dusk, with music adding to the ambience outside the restaurant, where there is an option to eat outdoors.

Downside? Almost none, but this place is not for those with limited physical fitness. A steep climb along a long, paved hillside path is the only way you can get in and out of this place, after you park at the reception area.

We would definitely visit again.

Room Tip: The cottages at the top have a great view.

Sir,

Your vivid and accurate review is very useful both to Team Blackberry and to the readers of Trip Advisor.

‘Saga of Blackberry Hills’ is being reprinted with more informative articles and rare photographs. The new edition is being edited by none other than the famous writer/orator Mr. K.M.Narendran and I can assure you Sir that the same will be more authentic and professional as you wanted it to be.

Please do come again. The positive energy that guests like you leave behind is our driving force.

“The glory and the freshness of a dream…”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

The long search for our honeymoon trip was finalized, of course after several hours of Trip advisor visits. We were not very sure about Blackberry Hills because there were several negative reviews so we decided to staythere only one night.

The drive to Munnar was not very pleasant because the fast ascent perhaps made her dizzy. We were offered a warm towel and a welcome drink on arrival which failed to change our mood.

Kripa lead us to our room which looked a small villa but actually was part of a triplex. The door was opened and we were introduced to the routine things and finally the balcony door was opened before us. There we are…. In the middle of all the beauty of the world! I have never been an admirer of poetry but I remembered Wordsworth and his verse…

We had a very good time at Blackberry Hills. We went for walk through the winding pathways of the estate. In the middle of the estate, we found few guests and Mr Harsha, the Activities Manager helping guests to climb the rock. I also tried climbing, and I could see how anxious my wife is about my safety. Mmmmm.

Food was ok. We could not try their spa. We still are sorry that we should have spent 3 days minimum at this place. We will come back.
