My wife and I stayed at this resort this week. We booked the honeymoon-themed "Megha-malika", a cozy rustic cottage located on a steep hillside. The location is easily the best, from the standpoint of scenic views, and being away from the dust and noise of Munnar town. The cottage faces a massive valley, with magnificent views that stretch miles, with misty mountain ranges fading into the horizon. I am not sure whether all cottages will offer these panoramic views, however.
The room was cozy with red tile flooring, glass windows with adequate curtains for privacy, and the terracotta paintings and murals were a nice touch. The bathroom was good and clean, with hot water shower, excellent water pressure albeit slightly cramped.
The bed was wide and strongly built, and the linen, clean.
The living area of our cottage opened out into a balcony with breathtaking views. A couple of arm chairs were located on the balcony, a thoughtful touch.
The "Saga of Blackberry hills" -a book we found at the cottage offered a detailed account of the history and ecology of the area, albeit written in the form of an amateurish postgraduate dissertation rather than in reader-friendly format. Nice effort, anyway.
Hornbill- the restaurant was the best part of our stay. Located on the steep hillside it offered great views of the deep expansive valley beneath, much like those from the window-seat of an aircraft. Food was good, and the service was courteous. We especially loved a gentle reminder call to our cottage from the restaurant in the morning, that they were closing soon for breakfast. In-room dining was also available, though we chose to dine at the Hornbill.
A campfire is lit at dusk, with music adding to the ambience outside the restaurant, where there is an option to eat outdoors.
Downside? Almost none, but this place is not for those with limited physical fitness. A steep climb along a long, paved hillside path is the only way you can get in and out of this place, after you park at the reception area.
We would definitely visit again.
Room Tip: The cottages at the top have a great view.
