The run down: very beautiful renovated house, clean (all floors are marble), with stunning views of the surrounding hills and the lush farm with its towering trees going down the sloped backyard. Santosh is very nice and generous, and his meals (complete with fresh coconuts from the backyard!) were among the best we had in India, no kidding. The tour of his farm was also a plus (elsewhere in Munnar you pay to see and sample fresh spices and things like coffee beans, fresh pepper, etc.)
Also, don't fret about the distance from Munnar. First of all, it's a short ride (15 min) and taxis are everywhere and they are super cheap (and Santosh can arrange one to show up any time). Second, there's not much to see in Munnar, which is a place to visit briefly as part of your day, and not a place to stay at because, frankly, it lacks in charm. Instead, you want to stay somewhere beautiful and peaceful with views. That's the whole point of going there, right? And Santosh will provide you with dinner, so no need to go into town for food if you don't want to.
Basically, the place was exactly what we wanted: affordable, scenic, with good food, a friendly host, and the charming, homey experience of a homestay (so much better than the impersonal hotel experience). He takes care of everything so there's no hassle at all. I'm so glad they had room for us!
Highly, highly recommended!
Only tip: it's a bit hard to find (the address is just "Powerhouse Road," so make sure you bring the phone number along so you can have your driver call for directions as you approach Munnar (also, on the road from Kochi/Ernakulam to Munnar, it's a bit before Munnar, so if you wait till Munnar to call you'll end up backtracking).
Room Tip: We had the room on the top floor with an amazing view out over the hills, including sunrise
