It was a long drive for us. We knew we were getting into the right place for vacation after the strangely unpleasant summers we were experiencing back home in Bangalore.
We (a family of 8 adults and 3 children with ages ranging from 3 to 65) were literally at our wits’ end, when we heard that it would take an hour and half more from Munnar to reach Camp Noel, when we got to Munnar.
It was my anniversary and I had called the resort folks to arrange for cake sometime in the afternoon. While no promise was given, I got a call when we were mid-way to Munnar informing me that the cake would be ready. We had a hearty dinner and retired to bed soon after the anniversarycelebration.
The next morning, we were woken up by chirping of birds and when I opened the clean white window-screens I was completely dumbstruck by the beauty of the place. Neatly silhouetted against the green mountains were these nice little cottages orderly arranged in a descending slope. Our earlier day adventure (or misadventure of travelling too far with young children) had left us with little energy to enjoy the beauty the previous night, but the morning dew, coupled with the fresh air and breathtaking beauty left me with a feeling of complete peace.
We did go back and forth the next 2 days to Munnar and nearby places. But everytime we came back to the resort, we were completely mesmerized by the beauty of the resort's location, the peace it had to offer and the service of the people. The access road that snakes through the top station is nicely laid and the gorgeous mountain ranges on both sides make it a nice place for a vacation. One needs to take a detour some 2-3 kms before the top-station to reach this resort and drive through 8-10 kms in dingy local roads.
What stood out for me in the resort was the attention by all people in the resort taking care of our little needs (said and unsaid). I was a little bothered by the last 3-4 kms though, although it was a conscious decision to stay in this resort. We knew about the roads and that was something that we decided to live with even before we started. The photos in the website did not look artificial and what we saw in the website was nearly what we got.
Since, we were a small group and not too finicky about the route to this resort for the last 3 kms and wanted a clean, calm environment we decided to try Camp Noel. Yes, it is isolated and one needs to travel 40 kms from Munnar town. But, we loved this place, because we wanted to escape from the urban chaos and needed a peaceful ambience for a few days and Camp Noel perfectly filled in our needs
