“smelled like cat pee...”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 January 2012

if i could give it a lower rating, i would. by american standards, luna would be less than 1 star hotel, as our lodge smelled like cat pee, had stained towels, sheets that had the sour smell of laundry that had been wet for a few days & forgotten to be dried, air-conditioning that sounded like a train was going thru your house, and a 25m pool that no one was in as it was far from clean. this might have been acceptable if the place cost a fraction of the price they charged. but at $160(!) per nite i would've expected far more and for that price you can stay at the mayan princess which is a far better accommodation & facility instead of this place. in addition, luna is in the middle of nowhere (it's almost misleading to say this place is in west end, as it's at the very far end so that it's a very unpleasant 40 min walk thru a lot of construction (huge gaping holes in the middle of the road in multiple places) to any of the restaurants there or else $5 pp cab ride) so unless if you're willing to trek in the dark which was not recommended to us as being safe or pay the cab fee, you were stuck eating there for all 3 meals.

what ended up happening for me & my friend is that the accommodations were so horrid that despite the fact we prepaid for 4 nites, we checked out after 1 to move to mayan princess even tho we knew that there was high likelihood that we wouldn't get any refund, and in fact, we didn't get any despite the fact the manager there admitted to us after we walked thru our lodge together that the sheets smelled & the towels were unacceptably stained but she said that the sound of the AC is as it would be anywhere else (not true at mayan princess) & she wouldn't admit to the place smelling like cat pee (i used to own a cat & it's a very hard smell to forget!).

even if this place cost 1/2 of what it was per nite, not delivering on basic cleanliness for me made this place unacceptable & far worse than if i were to stay at a motel 6. so unless if you have money to throw away, i would NOT recommend staying at this place. from our direct experience i can tell you that you can find comparable places for much cheaper or else nicer places for the same price.

Room Tip: if despite this review u venture to stay there, then 1) don't pre-pay for more than 1 nite 2) as...

“Good Value”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 December 2011

Somewhat dated but clean rooms. Food was ok, but resort is within walking distance of West End and the food and entertainment there.

Booked for 4 nights, but moved out after 1 - terrible accommodation. Extremely overpriced. For $160 a night plus tax you expect so much more. the 'resort' was tired, uncared for, the towels were old and stained, the bedsheets smelt damp and the room stunk of cat pee. Complained to the manager who only paid lip service to our complaints. the rooms might be large, but the airconditioning thundered throughout the night. the hotel is 40 minutes walk to west end and not a scenic walk during the day and didn't feel safe at night, so unless you want to take a taxi you are stuck with the hotel food, which was OK. there are so many other places to stay which are cheaper with better facilities, i'm surprised they ever have any guests. Wouldn't recommend to my worst enemy

I'm sorry you did not enjoy your stay with us, I'm sure we would have helped in any way if we were given the chance. I think you were not aware of where you were staying, since we are less then a 10 minute walk along the beach to West End, not 40 minutes. Consequentially you do not need a taxi to take you into town, but just a short walk and you are there. We work hard to make sure things are well taken care of. We have so many return guests and they would not return if they did not see we have a lot more to offer then most resorts.

Thank you!

“LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT!!!!”

I have been all over the world traveling and I know great service when I see it! Luna Beach Resort has you never wanting to leave! The food is good, service is great, drinks are AMAZING, rooms are beautiful, and the sceneary is breath taking! I honestly can't think of any complaints to make about Luna. I just returned home and I am already planning a group trip with all my friends for the summer time.
As for the island itself I love it! It's beautiful and green with crystal clear water. I could not stop taking pictures lol! The people are as sweet as can be and are most deffinitly "laid back"! There are tons of things to do and I am planning on getting certified to go diving next trip. I am in love with Roatan, Honduras and Luna Beach Resort! I guess you can say that I have found my new favorite vacation spot and I wish I would have came here sooner.

“Nice rental houses, bad food, and awful sand flies”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 September 2011

The rental house was nice enough....plenty of room, a full kitchen, clean and well-furnished. The location is typical for Roatan.....safe during the day, and semi-sketchy at night. Between the resort and West End the beach is dark but all the locals report it as a safe walk, provided you are not alone. We did see numerous policemen armed with AK-47s patrolling along that particular strip of sand and had no problems at all. We were repeatedly warned not to walk the other direction down the beach (towards West Bay) at night and as such never attempted to do so. Even the locals said they would not make that journey on foot for fear of being robbed.

The food at Luna Beach pretty much just sucks. They nickel-and-dime you to death with every single meal...charging for water for an "all-inclusive" plan is just ridiculous. The burgers reminded me of elementary school mystery meat and everything else is just plain old-fashioned nasty. Ordering nachos one day, we received fresh chips, but that same bag of chips was dragged out for our entire week-long stay. We asked for fresh chips later in the week and were told that there were not enough guests eating there to justify opening a new bag. Are you kidding me?? We are out or cooked in the house almost every meal as their fare was bordering on inedible.

As for the sand flies, I understand that is a problem that is island-wide and not exclusive to Luna Beach. Even still, they were simply atrocious. It is impossible to walk outside for any reason whatsoever without completely dousing yourself in DEET, which then gets you lectured by the hotel and dive staff. Hey, when you guys control your pests, I'll stop spraying chemicals. But as long as these vicious beasts are carrying off my travel companions one bite at a time, we are gonna be spraying the Off. Just don't buy it from the hotel, since they want $14 per can!

The dive shop is a mother-may-I philosophy. No dives under 60 ft unless you're an advanced diver, regardless of your experience level. No going near wrecks (never mind penetrating them, I am talking about going near them) unless you have a wreck certification. You dive for XX minutes then surface, regardless of the air you have left.

Overall, not a terrible place to stay, but if I am going back to Roatan I will try my luck elsewhere.
