March 2005 - We stayed here for several nights in March while we were in Ghana. This was the most expensive of our lodgings at $150 US per night, and also the biggest disappointment. When I went to check in, they tried to say I had cancelled our reservation. They seemed not to believe the email I produced from the hotel saying a family room had been reserved for us. They knew we were a family of 5, however there were only 2 beds in their "family" room. We separated one into two smaller ones, but the other was a double, no room for another kid. We asked for a cot, and they tried to charge us ANOTHER $25 US a night for the cot - I don't think so! We were given a room right next to the "staff/storage quarters" where there were lots of bottles clanging and trucks running and talking going on at all times of the day and night. We were woken up one morning by the sounds of digging right behind the headboard. Turns out they were mixing cement right at our door. The room had really, really seen better days. Paint was falling off the wall, the windows were so high you couldn't look out of them - it was rather scary to lift the curtain anyway. It would have been an OK place to stay, perhaps at $40 US but not $150/night! To top it all off, we had no water while we were there. My husband thought they trucked the water in to the resort. Once when he saw the truck arrive he rushed back to our room and we did have enough water for two showers, but that was it. We booked this hotel based on the activities they offered such as 9 hole golf course, games (pool tables etc) but the golf course had not seen a lawnmower in quite some time - they were getting out a lawnmower when we left however. The pool tables/fooseball etc were all locked up in a room and through the windows it was obvious they were not in working condition. There is a small 3 computer internet cafe which was really expensive (so we thought). The food was OK, a tad expensive. A breakfast was included with the room that was adequate but consisted of cold eggs and cold porridge and dry toast etc. The beach is nice, however this was the one place in our whole time in Ghana that a guy tried to grab my camera while I was picking up shells. Only hotel on our stay to jerk us around in arranging transportation - I believe they got a cut of the rate. It gave us a place to sleep, but not a desire to return. Other than complaining about no water a couple of times, we said nothing else. When our bill arrived - for some reason they felt compelled to deliver it at 4:30 AM! - I noted that they had reduced the rate to $134 US per night - nice of them. I will not stay here again - go to the Elmina Beach Resort instead if you can handle not having a beach altho it is on the water.
