“Great place with WONDERFUL staff (except one guy)”

We stayed here in January and loved it. The staff was friendly, helpful, all smiles and were amazing from check-in to check out!! We arrived for a quick check-in process and were greeted with juice and wet towels for our hands/face. We walked out to our pool-beach view over-the-water bungalow and were impressed by its immaculate cleanliness, hard wood floors, comfortable bed (which was nicely decorated with flowers in the shape of a giant red heart) with balcony perfect for lounging with drinks, sun bathing and watching the endless different species of marine life swimming around the bungalow. Although the ocean view bungalows offer a amazing unobstructed view the ocean, we had a blast in our bungalow with no complaints. In fact should we be lucky enough to return, we'd like to stay in a beach bungalow which seem to have more room between bungalows and your own beach.

Every other day the hotel would leave you a gift on the table as they turn down your bed which was a really nice touch. The resort is perfect in that is big enough to meet top-of-the-line service and small enough to keep it quaint. The reef along the hotel is lit up at night so we enjoyed night snorkeling, kayaking and sea doos in the day.

The location was perfect with a tour agency-car rental place right across the street and a supermarket 5 minute (walking distance) where we saved lots of $$$ on loading up on snacks, beer, water etc.. Also we had a sea food pizza delivered in 15 minutes from right up the street which only cost $22 USD.

Our only negative encounter was with a French men named Gilles who worked the activities desk in the lobby....he was rude, dry and didn't seemed like he wanted to be there, which shocked us because everyone else was so very nice and helpful. He turned us off so much we booked all of our activities across the street. They have dance shows twice a week, a nice infinity pool, clean beach, bar with a wonderful view.

This place did exceed our expectation and highly recommend staying here for couples, family and groups....just beware of Gilles he was rude!!

Room Tip: Ocean view over the water bungalow is great for the view and privacy. Beach Bungalows are right out...

“Beautiful, non-pretentious slice of heaven”

I am in love with this resort. It is the stuff dreams are made of. We had a honeymoon garden bungalow with a private pool. Just absolutely amazing (I highly recommend these bungalows. They are better than the over-water bungalows).

Best thing about it: it has all the luxuries of a top-end resort, but still feels like a small family-run place. You get luxury mixed with some local flavour. Absolutely one of the nicest places I have ever stayed at.

Other positives:
* As you approach reception, you are treated with a heavenly view of the light blue lagoon
* Staff are very friendly and helpful
* Free Kayaks -- and beautiful lagoon to explore
* Free Snorkeling gear
* Local charm -- most staff are local polynesians, and dress, speak in the local manner (though they mostly speak English too).
* There were 2 stray dogs and 1 cat that frequently hung about the pool area. I absolutely loved this (though my wife wasn't so impressed).
* Once I saw a large crab scuttling around between the bungalows -- loved it!
* Nice small spa, with nice treatments
* Spacious & private bungalow
* The staff gifted us a black-pearl, as a 'honey moon' gift
* The staff put up a polynesian dance show (unlike professionals who do it at other resorts). This infinitely increased the charm of the resort. Seeing the staff put the hard work into preparing the dance specially for Christmas Eve, was very nice.
* Cheaper than other high end resorts
* Place across the road rented scooters & cars
* Lovely infinity pool
* Nice dinner -- though limited choices for Vegetarians (but that is a problem in the entire country).

Some small negatives:
* As everywhere in French Polynesia, the staff can sometimes be a little inflexible. But no major complaint there.
* The breakfast buffet was OK - not amazing.
* The guy who ran the Jet Ski tour with us, was a bit rude.
* There was some dude with a loud leaf blower, cleaning up outside our bungalow at 8AM on a Saturday. He stopped when we complained to reception, but started again 20 mins later.

Everything said, I loved this place. I would definitely go back, given the chance.

Room Tip: Get a garden honeymoon bungalow with a private pool. These are absolutely heavenly. Much better than...

“Nice!”

When we arrived at the resort they greeted you with cool wash cloths that were scented, my husband loved the scent, and a cool beverage which was nice. We stayed for 7 nights and had a premium garden bungalow with a plunge pool for the first 5 nights and paid for an up grade for the over the water bungalow for the last 2 nights which I thought was kind of lousy of the hotel to charge us since the hotel was empty. Oh well we wanted to experience the over the water bungalows which for the money we really liked the premium garden bungalows better. They had a more comfortable bed and the air conditioner worked so much better, and they were quieter. But all in all the resort was kept perfectly manicured, clean and the staff was very nice. We had massages two of the days and they were well worth the money,,,,,,kudos to the spa staff.
The morning breakfast buffet was nice and plentyful which came with our package. My husband really liked the Pearl burger in the bar it was very tasty. We will stay here on our next trip to Moorea.

Room Tip: If you like to sit on your balcony and look at the water do an over water bungalow, premium garden h...

“Great stay at the Pearl”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2012

My wife and I stayed here for 11 nights in January for our honeymoon, and couldn't have been happier! We had originally booked a premium garden bungalow, which was fantastic and very private. Since most of our stay was off the peak travel season we were able to upgrade to an overwater bungalow for the majority of our trip, at no additional cost. I would recommend reserving premium rooms, be it in the garden or over the water (the difference is the bed). If you plan on going during the wet season, be prepared to endure some rain. While it was sunny for the majority of our trip, it did rain for 3-4 straight days, and there is not much to do when this happens. The staff at the hotel are excellent, and very accomodating to everyone. Since it did rain for an extended period of time we got to know most, if not all of the bar staff very well, and they did a great job (esp Bruno and Marquesa)!

The snorkeling and kayaking at the resort were great as well, lots to see and plenty of room to snorkel without crowding anyone else. Overall, we couldn't have been happier with our stay (we loved the little "gifts" in our room from time to time!), and would recommend this resort to anyone looking for a honeymoon destination. We chose Moorea based on our length of stay, and availability of activities on the island (which there are plenty).

One final tip... Make sure you stock up at the duty free, as alcohol (and tobacco) are very pricey on the island, as you might expect from a group of islands in the middle of nowhere.

Room Tip: The premium bungalows are something you have to experience, as you can't find this anywhere else...

“LUXURY”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

We received a free upgrade to a garden bungalow that are stand alone. It had an enclosed backyard with a small plunge pool about the size of a large jaccuzi with 2 lounge chairs and a table & 2 chairs. The bungalow had a quiet elegance that was reflected in its interior of mostly polished wood. We went in December 2011 considered the low season. The nearby town, Maharepa, is walkable from the resort, but not much. There is a lovely infinity pool looking out towards the ocean. Beware we found the level of sun to be intense, almost oppressive.

Note that 80% of the food is imported, and because Moorea - 15 minute ferry ride from Tahiti Nui - is part of French Polynesia, there is a French influence with its food. Eating out is expensive. There are nearby restaurants that will dispatch a "taxi" to pick you up at the resort and return you. And of course the resort does have bungalows over the water.
