“Restful gem for longer stays; El Salvador at its best”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 August 2011

I felt sorry for the fast tour groups who came in the afternoon and left early the next day; they missed out on all that this country inn has to offer. Stress evaporates at this collection of colonial buildings with lush, gorgeous tropical plantings, attention to nature, art, architecture, altars, fountains. The staff members could not have been nicer, sweeter, more helpful. The continental breakfasts were a healthy way to start the day with fruit salad and mango preserves for the toast. Happy hour can be spent on the bar's porch that overlooks the lake. The Central Plaza is a 5 minute walk away. The national bird, the turquoise-browed motmot, hangs out in the butterfly gardens along with other exotic birds like squirrel cuckoos and magpie jays. Bring your camera.

Room Tip: The more expensive rooms are isolated and have lake views; the cheaper rooms are just as good and su...

“Beautiful individual rooms with petals on the beds!”

A gem, just outside the centre of Suchitoto. A 10 minute walk to the centre. All rooms appear to have been former small houses and in my bathroom there was an old stone sink now filled with flowers. Huge beds and high ceilings. A/C and fan but not needed as able to have shutters open all night because of fly screens. Rooms and outside filled with antique or old objects of interest. Wonderful views to the lake from the restaurant. If you are bird watcher then lying by the spotless swimming pool you will see many native birds close up. Well worth a couple of days to unwind if you have been travelling a few nights already.

“Great view but over-priced, crappy rooms”

We live in San Salvador and love to go to Suchitoto for weekend getaways. We stayed in La Posada our first time and will never be back. The view is beautiful and the location is great. Otherwise, the room was dank, the play ground was falling apart and the food was terrible. The price of the room was $85 per night, which is crazy considering you can stay in much nicer hotels that price. For this hotel to be worth your stay, bargain down to $30 per night or just stay somewhere else.

“Once you have been there it stays in your hearth forever!”

The Hotel La Posada de Suchitlan in Suchitoto, with their welcoming and frendly personnel that feels like Family, makes me want to come to visit and enjoy the beauty of their inside water fountains, cobblestone pasages, their colonial house design, with balconies as wide as the suite, gives me a pefect view of a beautiful lake, hummingbirds and other bird species flying at my eye level, when I open the venecian doors of my suite early in the morning. I particularly enjoy their historical treasures, displayed throughout the Hotel, the nature, the picturesc gift shop and beautiful landscapes. The food in their restaurant is delicious and very diverse, this beautiful hotel takes me back in time.

Suchitoto is one of the most interesting colonial towns in El Salvador and the hotel: La Posada de Suchitlan offers a wide enjoyable atmosphere, from the exclusive European ambience to the simplicity of a country house; with the colonial charming and architectural beauty. For me, La Posada de Suchitlan is certainly a place worth visiting over and over again.

Once you have been there it stays in your hearth forever!

We had a very comfortable , spaceous and beautiful room, with a great view. We cuold see the lake and all the Cerros (hills) that sorround it. The food was very delicious, they serve something of the region, it is "Gallo en Chicha) (rooster in a special drink they make of pineapple, dark sugar and raw corn) oh boy it is excelent. We had a good time.
The waitress are very sweet girls and they really know how to wait on you.
