“A break from the English winter weather !”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 February 2012

Stayed at this hotel for 9 nights & for Egypt standards it was good . No its not what we british know as a 5 star .The room was round the quiet relaxation pool the bathroom could have done with a refurb ,but was always cleaned with fresh towels each day .
The pools are all kept very clean ,but unfortunately too cold to use ,unless you are a child & dont feel the cold .
The sun lounges are comfy at the pools & the beach & if you wanted an extra mattress it wasnt a problem ,also wind breakes provided at the beach .
There is always something you can find to eat in any of the 5 restaurants . It did get busy as the schools had broken up ,so we noticed we had to que at breakfast for the egg station & at lunchtime. The staff are very helpful & always going round cleaning up the food plates & always asking if you would like them to fetch you a drink . The pizzas were good & made freshly in the italian restaurant . The drink selection is vast but the quality of the drink is poor ,& i had read in some other reports where they had taken there own in ,Think this is a very good idea .
The animation team ,are not pushy & in your face like at some other hotels we have stayed at in Sharm . They offer Belly dancing ,Break dancing lessons & keep fit .
The music they play around the active pool in the afternoon is far better than the entertainment of an evening . Its the same people singing in the upstairs bar ,the outside bar each & every night the same . Because the hotel is so large im sure it could do with other singing groups coming in & entertaining everyone . They finish promptly at 10am just when everyone as finished there evening meal ,finally found a seat , sat down with a drink to relax .
We did go to the Irish bar of an evening , where there was Music Quiz nights & Karaoke but lots of guests did say that they didnt like the smell in there (sickly ) smell not sure if it was what they cleaned with in there . Ahmed looked after us in there with his good service .
The Taxi service at reception did charge us more than double to take us to Soho Square & didnt turn up to bring us back to the hotel. So we had to got a local taxi back ourselves .
We went on the shuttle bus twice to Namma Bay once in the day 11 am brings you back at 3.30pm Then in the evening leaves at 7.30 & brings you back at 11pm It took 30 minutes each way & they charge 5EP per person .
Not in to snorkeling but for those that are ,you can just walk along the long 500 meter pier & see all the beautiful fish & coral . Childrens play areas down at the beach area & mini golf ,but there is a charge for the golf if you dont do it at set times with the animation team.
Overall it was a pleasant stay ,we did go to get away from the freezing winter weather in the uk ,but did have some rather overcast cold days where it was too cold to lie around the pools & you did need a fleece or a jacket on , & there isnt an awful lot else to do around there . Not the hotels fault ,no one can guarantee the weather .

Room Tip: Relaxation pool area ,Rooms over looking the beach looked quiet too

“Thinking of taking kids?”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

Have just returned from 10 days at the Royal Albatros, and have got to say that it was OK. Not fantastic, not "wow", but it is OK. Went with two kids aged 9 & 4, and I would like to share my review for those also thinking of taking kids this year.
We booked a two bedroomed hotel room, and the rooms are laid out with the main master having a balcony looking out onto the gardens or aqua park at the back of the hotel, (so it is a long walk from the main kids pools, the beach and the main bit of the hotel) the second bedroom is behind the master, with the main door to your room opening on to the second bedroom. There is no natural light, or ventilation into this second bedroom. The light issue is great if you have kids who would wake early in the light though! The bunk beds consist of a large single underneath, nice wooden ladder, and a regular sized single at the top. In addition, there is another single bed in this second bedroom, great if you have more than two kids. In the master bedroom there is also a sofa bed that converted to a double, so you could get lots of kids crammed in if you wanted to. The rooms themselves are OK, nothing amazing, but not much to complain about either. The main pools are all freezing, but the kids pool was actually OK, it is 50cm deep all round and seemed to be warmed nicely by the sun. It is one of the best kids pools I've seen, lots of mini slides, things to climb on, water buckets that fill up and empty. Nice shallow steps for the smaller ones to climb into easily. The beach is a nightmare (in my opinion) for taking kids to....There is a 600meter jetty from the beach going out to the coral. This sounded great in the brochure, but what I didn't realise (or think about) was that this means that you have to walk 600m (and back) if you want to see the coral. It is quite uneven for pushing a buggy, and unsafe for walking with a little toddler, the "fence guard" too open for little ones to go without having their hands held. It takes a good 8-10 minutes to walk to the end of it. So, what is at the beach end by the hotel? Very little. The sea was very calm at the hotel end, as it is very shallow, like a giant puddle, at about 10inches deep, for the whole of 600m! My kids paddled for a bit, but not enough going on to hold their interest I'm afraid, no fish, no coral, in fact, not even any waves breaking...... The sand is very grainly, quite sharp, but that it to be expected as it is mainly made from old dead coral, so can't really complain.
We choose this hotel as we liked the idea of a kids club, but this was non-existent. Techinically it was open from 10.30 for two hours, then 2 hrs in the afternoon, but we didn't see anyone at all, and the animation team were extremely disappointing as far as the kids were concerned. They made no effort to introduce themselves, say hello, invite us to do things, or get us involved despite the fact we sat around the kids pool everyday for 10 days so we were easy to spot. There was a kids disco at the beach bar every night at 8.30 for 30 minutes, this was quite nice, and my two enjoyed it, shame there wasn't much else! For older kids there was pool, and a table tennis table in the evenings, but as very little else, these got busy. In general this hotel was quite adequate, and for the price, good. However, like many other reviewers, I would say that the food was a canteen style offering, you didn't feel like you were "going down to dinner" and want to dress up, you felt as though you were in a large companies staff canteen. The food was passable, but no wow factor, and presentation barely non existent. Big shortage of tables, drinks were tiny, but was all OK, not terrible. There was a kids resturant, but this was in reality a sectioned off bit that mainly dished out chips and nuggets, my two found plenty they liked in the main restuarants. The man who made the breakfast pancakes made my daughter a duck and a snake nearly everymorning, and this was a highlight for us at breakfast.
The best bit for the kids is the unlimited ice creams and milkshakes, as well as cokes, but you could get this from any all inclusive, you wouldn't need to come here just for some icecream.. The Irish bar smelt so badly of vomit that we stopped going in there. I don't think it is actually vomit, as the smell wouldn't have alsted so long, I think it may be the cleaning fluid, or the beer barrels even... In here there wasn't enough table and chairs, and the entertainment consisted of a film during the day, and mainly karoke every night. Useless to go with kids...... Went on an excursion with the dive centre, this was good, and not too expensive, and also had a pedicure at the spa.... again, good and good value...... If you are reading this review and you have already booked, don't worry, its nice enough, you'll have a nice time. If you are reading it with a veiw to booking, shop around, see what else is out there within a same budget and see what else you can find.

“Nightmare!!”

This was our second trip to Royal Albatros and unfortunately our last! The waiters and room staff were great but not the managers. Hotel4u managed to cancel our second week in the hotel, without notifying anyone, until one day we were locked from our room. Both Hotels4u and the managerial staff became very rude and unhelpful even though it was their mistake. Sadly, it effected our stay and i have no confidence in them now. All is well until you hit a problem, and then they have no time for you.

I am sorry to hear about the issue with your travel agent. Due to our resort being so popular we are usually full and have no rooms to offer in this situation. I am sorry about this and I am sad to hear your agent was not able to offer you an appropriate alternative hotel.

We hope we will have the pleasure of welcoming you to our hotel once again in the future and at which time I look forward to speaking with you and personally ensuring your next holiday will exceed all your expectations.

“Definitely not a five star by our standards!!!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

Was at this hotel from 28th Jan to 4th Feb. Hotel itself was ok, had a good room with beach view, very clean and well kept by our cleaner.
Food at the hotel was ok but could have been better, although the italian restaurant had a good pizza and pasta bar. Plenty of restaurants to choose from, found the Italian to be the best one. Did pay a visit to the Thai/Sushi bar which you had to pay for, food was very good but service terrible, had to wait 1½ hrs for our starter!! Pancake bar was nice as didn't enjoy the puddings at all.
The alcohol was not very pleasant, had been told would get used to it, but by the end of the week could only drink coke. All spirits tasted the same!!
After 6pm there was not much to do.
Pool areas were clean and would recommend the pool by the italian restaurant, Amir the barman was very attentive and always brought us our drinks, even if you went to the bar to get them he would send you back to your sunbed and bring them over.
All staff were friendly.
Spoke to several people whilst there and quite a few were not very impressed with the hotel, some who had been before said how it had deteriorated! A couple we met had been there for 3½ weeks and they said it had been the worst holiday they had ever had.

I have to say, although food and drink was brilliant, I enjoyed the holiday with my partner, it was a nice break, but neither of us would return here!!

“Not 5* BUT CLEAN”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012 via mobile

Royal Albatros Sharm El Sheikh

 Well it's clean that's a definite
Rooms are clean
Beach clane and comfy with sun lounges &wind shields

This hotel is definitely not 5* the restaurants are self service which is good and like all other comments there is a large variety

Meditarrian restaurant well that confused me to the max was oriental food

Tangine that was nice very Marocon food very tasty

Il Caminetto Italian food freshly made pizza, and pasta
Had a lovely Red Pepper dip.

Zum Kaiser think the name says it all, it's German food.

Coffee shops were amazin try iced coffee and vanilla milkshakes, all part of the inclusive deal very good.

We tipped as we went day by day and in $ dollars.

WI-FI is not free and it should be especially for a so called 5* hotel it is a con to be honest they want guests to pay €10 for 1hour or €20 for the day was not impressed.

The beach and pool are very comfy all have sun lounge cushions.
Pools were not heated which was a disappointment.  The sea was cold too but it is winter :o)

The rooms
Towels were not very big n yes I am a big girl.
You have a beach towel in rooms and if you want it changed you have to wait till the next day which is not a good plan as the cleaners dont come round at the crack of dawn.
The spirits well they are very flammable I'm sure it's fire lighter fluid I stuck to the red wine and shandy's
Staff extremely friendly.
Would I go back yes if the price was right wouldn't expect 5* hotel but to leave on a positive it's a clean hotel.
