“Had an enjoyable time...”

We stayed here in the first week of Feb 2012. Lovely grounds and fab staff.
When we arrived on the Sunday evening we were checked in and given a free upgrade to the new block. This was great. We had a huge suite with a side view towards the sea. This suite also has a separate pool but unfortunately during the winter months they do not have a bar attached to it.
The other 2 pools are part of the whole resort. The main pool is big but is FREEZING! We were brave enough to go in it a few times and others thought we were crazy. The smaller pool is heated and this was great. Felt like dipping into a bath. The only problem is that this pool gets very crowded and noisy. So if you wanted a quiet and relaxing time this is not the pool for you.
The beach is a tad run down but the jetty is great to watch all the colourful fish swimming about. You can also get food down at the beach. It is about a 10 minute stroll to the main hotel. The grounds are well cared for and are lovely.
We didn't particularly enjoy the food at this hotel. However we were told that the food in general in Sharm is not the greatest. There is a Burger King, KFC, Starbucks, TGI Fridays, McDonalds, etc opposite the resort so you will never go hungry. There is also a chinese and Italian restaurant opposite. We did not go to these but heard from others that they enjoyed what they had. Although the Italian restaurant was quite pricy.
There's also a market over the road. We did not enjoy visiting here due to the market traders shouting and trying to get you into their store. There is a supermarket outside the resort that is really good and very cheap. You go out from the complex past the security guards and turn right. It's about 100 metre walk but much cheaper than the supermarket inside. We got 2 big bags of crisps and 2 icelollys for 90p!
We had free wifi which was great. You can only get this at the hotel lobby and we heard from others that it wasn't available at the beginning of the week. So we may have just got lucky. You can always go across to Burger King for wifi.
We had lovely waiters throughout our stay. Both Amir and Zak were great. Their tables are on the right as you walk down the stairs from the lobby. I would recommend these waiters because they find tables for you and get your drinks, etc. other waiters aren't so great and focus on Russian holiday makers. I read on here that 'The Russians' are very rude. Unfortunately I have to agree this. Most barged you out of the way, refused to apologise or acknowledge you and also expected far too much from the staff.
An area for improvement would be to have some separate restaurants as it was quite monotonous eating all of your meals in the same place throughout the whole of your stay.
All the alcoholic drinks were great. We had wine, beer, vodka and gin (not all at the same time!) and no problems with any.
There were a lot of Egyptians staying in the hotel whilst we were there. They are very family orientated and it was lovely to see how much they interacted with their children. However, there were a lot of children and it became very noisy at times. If you want a peaceful holiday then this hotel is not the place to visit at this time of year.
If you are planning on going on any day trips then Bob Marley is the person you should get them from. They are exactly the same trips offered by your rep but for half the price. Bob is somebody you cannot miss! He will seek you out. Really nice bloke who is always laughing and joking with everyone.
To sum up, the hotel is well presented but is just missing a few minor touches. We really enjoyed our stay but I don't think we would return.

“such a friendly hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

the hotel and grounds were lovely, classed as a 5* hotel I would not agree it is definitely say its a good 3*, the hotel and grounds are spotless, some of the furniture is a bit warn but apart from that no issues. The food needs to be sorted, don't get me wrong you can always find something and you won't starve but not great. thank you to Zach and Amir for looking after us. If you want a hotel that is not full a children this is not the one for you. Also the last two weeks of Jan is the school holidays so hotels are full of Egyptian families. Bedrooms are big and spacious, the beach was great, very clean, it is windy down there but the have windbreaks up, the sea is clear and when you walk up the piers you can see the fish. Weather was good averaged between 19-24 degrees. All in all a great holiday and would go back again.

“Nice Hotel Brilliant Staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

My wife and I spent a week in the Oriental Resort in January 2012, we normally go to Makadi Bay but decided to try out Sharm el Sheikh for the first time. When we are in Makadi Oasis in Makadi Bay we are treated like royalty and we were not sure what to expect in the Oriental Resort.
Overall it was an enjoyable stay for us, the waiters in the restaurant were excellent as were the bar staff. We stayed in one of the old rooms in the resort and were a bit apprehensive as we read a few mixed reviews regarding these rooms, when we got into the room we were surprised a little as some of the reviews were quite damning. The room we stayed in was both spacious and clean and bright with general room cleaning every day, fresh towels daily and bed linen changed daily on request. (If you do not ask you will not get) the gent who cleaned our room was very thorough.
Only negative point during the stay was when dealing with reception, some of the staff were very abrupt and were more interested in going into the back office at every opportunity rather than deal with the guests.
The nightly entertainment was good with a saxophonist playing on one of the nights which he was brilliant, should be playing more than one night a week.
Overall we enjoyed the holiday but once you got outside, the local shopkeepers could be very aggressive in their manner trying to tempt you into their shops, this did not bother us as we are well used to this type of banter but other guests were very nervous of this and did not venture outside of the hotel for the rest of their stay, this was even worse when we went to Naama Bay one evening,
I do not think I will go back to Sharm el Sheikh, but if I do I would certainly go back to the Oriental Resort.

“3 Stars at Best”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 January 2012

We stayed here under an all-exclusive package through Thomas Cook. There was nothing scathingly bad about the resort, but it was not a 4 star resort. When we arrived we upgraded to a room in the refurbished wing (these rooms start with a 4) for relatively little money, because the standard rooms were a bit tired. I think for a long weekend this hotel would be just fine, but a week was a bit too long for this place.

Pros: SUPER nice staff, great location, beach front property, convenient to get to places, not busy and annoying like Naamba Bay (you are constantly hassled there), lovely gardens. They have very little to choose from for vegetarians (in terms of protein), but when we mentioned this to the chef he was more than happy to make us a nice plate of falafel so kudos for that). The room was nicely done and the bed was extremely comfortable. The guy who cleaned our room, Moustafa, was the bomb. He did an excellent job and was super nice. Unfortunately, the other guy (don't know his name) who cleaned our friend's room was terrible. The pier is lovely to walk on and at the end there is a guy who will take you out to view the coral in a 2 person boat that you lay down on so you don't get wet. That was awesome and a great deal.

Cons (I'll break it down into sections):

Food - - is decent, although boring and I don't understand what's up with left over vegetables being added to jello moulds. A bit of creativity would make their food selection much nicer. They could also use more fresh fruits and signs telling you what exactly the food is would be nice (we found puzzling salads and stuff I can't even begin to understand at every lunch and dinner). There was absolutely no fruit juice to be found. There was some stuff that is similar to tang that they were passing off as orange juice. Thankfully there is a grocery store next door so we just bought our own. If you're excited about the free alcohol drinks don't be. You could drink 10 glasses of beer and feel absolutely nothing. The mixed drinks contain pretty much nothing and of course the fruit juices they are mixed with aren't real fruit juice.

Pools - - The pools close at 5PM (don't know about the warmer months) and they do not have any heated pools, which would be nice in the winter. We would have loved to sit in a jacuzzi, except there isn't really one, despite what they list on their web site. They have a jacuzzi in the health centre, but it's the kind that you would find at a private residence (i.e. it hold 6 people max), it's inside and it wasn't working when we were there.

Miscellaneous - - The aforementioned room cleaner that our friends had broke the blow dryer in their room and then came to their door later in the day telling them that they should buy some glue and fix it so they wouldn't be charged. He was quite insistent and they ended up going to the management when they were told they would have to pay for it. There is no free WiFi so I'm not sure what's up with the listing for an internet cafe, because it doesn't exist. Every once in awhile you'll pick up a signal from somewhere else, but if in need you can cross the street to the Burger King where it's free. We asked for a quiet room, but for some reason they put us on the side where the back door to the "club" was located so every time someone went out for a smoke we were blasted with music. The water is kind of gross (rusty pipes) so be aware if you need to clean something that's white (it will stain it). One morning at 4am (we had an early morning day trip planned) we had no water at all. Also, the water pressure dropped another day so we couldn't flush our toilet (this was a bit upsetting as I was quite ill from something I ate). When you're lounging on the beach you will be asked if you want a massage, a smoothie, a trip, etc. No one was over aggressive so that was ok, but shouldn't smoothies be included in an all-inclusive holiday that's supposed to include food and drinks? Obviously there is fresh fruit juice, but you'll never see it outside of paying for it.

All in all this hotel was OK, but I wouldn't stay there again. We spoke to other folks who stayed at places that seemed a lot nicer for less money than we paid.

Room Tip: Upgrade to the refurbished rooms.

“good hotel great staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 January 2012

Just spent my 50th birthday at the Oriental and can say i was not dissapointed. The hotel is not too big been to bigger in sharm but the welcome and the service were just great. given a ground floor room which was great , terrace was a real sun trap and spent a few days sunbathing out of the wind on it. Our room was very large with a huge bed and kept very clean by the cleaner. The bathroom was a bit tired though needed upgrading . Our toilet seat had a broken hinge and would slide around and the bath felt like you were going to fall right through it every time you stood in it to shower. The shower itself would run extremely hot and then cold , not good to put children in safely. We were offered an upgraded room when we arrived as some rooms had already been modernised but they wanted to charge us $150 US dollars for the privalige, i think this was a cheek as the hotel was only about a half full anyway.

The staff in the main dining area were fantastic, especially eddie murphy & zak they really looked after us and made my birthday really special, thanks to them all a great bunch of lads.
All in all a really good relaxing break and would definately go back to this hotel again.

Another thankyou to the entertainment staff especially Bob Marley he was a great kid used to come and sit with us for a chat on the beach. The Chef in the beach bar used to look out for us every day and have food ready for us as we arrived he was awesome.

As it was january the main pool was too cold to get into but the heated pool was very welcome when you needed a cool down, the grounds were very well kept and watered every day. There was a very nice waterfall and rock feature running right through the grounds too.

To sum up no real issues with this hotel would recommend it for a good holiday in a great location .

If you go to Nabq bay dont miss a visit to The Three Crowns Pub Opposite the tropicana grand azure resort where you can get a great steak and a warm welcome. Good british pub run by Andy and his wife and son Jack.
