“Run away”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 January 2012

Only good in this hotel is location!
If you want ti park youre car on hotel parking you need to pay. But you want get place to park if you came to late. Then staff point you to park on places that are for people that live in that street but they don't tell you that it's not hotel parking. So you can end up with blocked car for 5 days or so.
Our room was disaster, like we were in SSSR during cold war. Food was ok but not great, we have to share table with some older coupl that we saw first time. Staff was very helpfull but owner is idiot (not only out opinion). Run away from this hotel if you can.
Island is so beautiful, old town full of places to see. One of the places you must visit just don't go to hotel istra

“Unpleasant Hotel”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 January 2012

I stayed two nights with my girlfriend last August. In a nutshell: rooms are small and poorly furnished. Same applies to bathrooms. Further, there's no air con and Croatian summers are very hot. Luckly, we were given a fan, and this at least allowed us to sleep. We also had dinner at the restaurant and food is just ok. If you are planning a trip to Croatia, just avoid hotels (old and not refurbished) and try B&Bs or rooms, which are cheaper and nicer.

“Awful memories from the moment we walked through the door”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 September 2011

This is a very unpleasant hotel, to the degree that I fear it may have scarred our recent visit to Croatia. There is nothing positive to say about it.

From the moment we walked through the door we were greeted by unpleasant and rude staff. The rooms are small - fair enough - but lack lack basic amenities such as a socket (the only one is for the ancient TV), air con or a fan, or a wardrobe with doors that actually open. The walls were stained and flaking and the bathroom pretty dirty.

We had only breakfast at the hotel: it was utterly inedible (and we are not generally fussy with food) and so we had to go elsewhere for food.

The staff made lots of the 'beach' nearby... only a five minute walk, apparently. However it is simple a sand-coloured concrete embankment - it is NOT a beach and the hoteliers are being very duplicitous to call it such. It looks good on Google Maps or on the long-distance photos on the hotel website, but not good to actually visit and lie on. The nearest beaches are a good 5 miles away on the NW of the island.

Finally, as a testament to the staff: when we arrived we were given a paper to display in the car in the car park behind the hotel. When we left one day we were asked to hand this in by the attendant who manages the car park for the entire marina. When we returned and asked for another form, we were actually shouted out by a receptionist-come-school teacher who sternly told us that this was not what was supposed to happen, and made out that it was OUR fault. Evidently the first receptionist had not told us everything we need to know - it happens - but the fact that the receptionist felt it reasonable to actually shout and belittle her guests in such a way is appalling.

There is NOTHING positive to say about this hotel, apart from its location which is on the marina and only a few minutes' walk from the picturesque old town. Hardly worth the price.

Room Tip: Go somewhere else.

“Are you really this desperate?”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 August 2011

We arrived in Rab on a stinking hot day and were checked into what was supposed to be a sea view room. What this meant was that you had to put your head out the window and look to the right for the view of the marina and the water in the distance. We were told that if we had wanted one of the rooms with a balcony or full-windows that open to a semi-balcony we should have specified when we booked. Then there was the heat. The hotel does not have a fan for every room so we spent the first night trying to sleep in the heat - we left the windows open (useless as there wasn't any breeze). Leaving the window open subjected us to noise from the go-kart track below and mosquitos bit us all night. The next day we were given a fan, however there is no guarantee to get one as they are in limited supply. The double bed is actually just two single beds next to each other and we were told this is the same for every room of the hotel. The hotel also advertises that they are close to the beach, but this "beach" is actually just concrete along the waterfront - fine if you're happy to spread your towel on the concrete and walk on the rocks into the water where lots of boats drop anchor. To get to the nice beaches on Rab you have to take a bus, taxi or water taxi - the latter two being very expensive. The rooms in the hotel are very small and ours only had one powerpoint. So the choice is fan or television and no plug to charge phones or other devices. If you're a budget traveller and really don't mind roughing it this will be fine for you, but for us we were looking for more of a nice island experience. It's right in town so you have access to the town and all the restaurants but we were looking to be close to the beach and enjoy some nice sea breezes at night - we checked out after only two days.

Room Tip: Be sure to specify in your booking notes that you want a balcony (costs extra).

“this is possibly the worst 3* hotel in Croatia”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 July 2011

Me and my wife booked 2 nights in this hotel at the price of £100 a night in July 2011. Initially the staff was nice.
The problem started when we went to eat a dinner on our first night. At the reception we were told we can have 4 choices of the dinner choosing between meat/vegetarian/fish. When we sat at the table to order the waitress said that we can only have chicken with potatoes, as they normally take the order the day before or durrnig the breakfast and we booked our room in the afternoon. by the way my wife is vegetarian and she did not eat but was charged for the dinner.
The room had no air-conditioning so sleeping was a challenge as the temperature was nearly 30 degrees in the night. We had to switch off the TV (by the way the picture quality was worse than they customer service and all the channels were on german!???) in order to plug hairdryer as there was only one socket in the room. The shower did not have a curtain so the water was everywhere.
Next morning we had a breakfast which was OK. We ordered what we want to eat for the dinner during the breakfast. When we turned up for a dinner we were told to sit at the same table (table for 4 people) with two man that we never met!!!:) I asked them: What about the rest of your seating, can we seat alone at the other table so we can talk private matters while we eat? (they had at least 10-15 free tables) We were told that we can only seat with two strangers and if we want to eat we would have to share the table.
We refused the offer and went to eat out in the town.
Next day we were leaving, and we asked for our bill.
Guess what? They charged us for that dinner that we din not want to accept. I asked the receptionist (who by now could not appropriately deal with our complaint and was trying to keep happy face not to alert other guests waiting behind me) if I can speak with the manager in regards to their charges. I was told that the manager was not there but in Zagreb (200 miles away) and I would be able to contact him/her via e-mail. When I realised there is no way they are willing to drop the charges for the dinner which by the way we did not eat, I said: 'Can I have the e-mail address then. What the receptionist gave me is the general e-mail of the hotel (hotel-istra@hi.t-com.hr) not the email of the manager. Lucky for us is that prior to Rab we had stayed on Dugi Otok for a week which was magnificent.
My advice is if you are looking to have a holiday in Croatia go for the private accommodation as it is much cheaper and better value for your money. The hotels are dragging their Communist feel and have not been properly refurbished for a long time. The outside of the hotel looks nice but the inside stinks, really. My advice is to avoid this establishment!
Terrible

Room Tip: go to another hotel!!! Customer service is the worst of all!!!
