Oh my...where to begin. First off...Porec and the Istrian coast were fantastic. I highly reccomend the trip as the coastline was beautiful and the whole experience fantastic. We stayed in the Apartments Lanterna Sunset which claim to be remodeled in 2006. Oh please! If you call slapping some plaster on cracks in the wall, then ok...they were 'remodeled' Can't really complain as we paid 54 euro/night through their website, but it wasn't particularly clean and definitely not remodeled. Be prepared to have Kuna on you as hardly anywhere in the complex takes credit card AND if you want to charge to your room you have to tell the desk first. We found this out the hard way after we left the reception area after specifically telling them we intended to charge to the room....walked all the way to the restaurant who told us no...we had to go back to reception and pay first...very annoying especially with two hungry children. Not easy to find anyone who spoke English...they all spoke German to us which was ok (we can understand a little) In conclusion....definitely take the trip to Porec and Croatia in general (we also spent two nights in Plitvice Lakes which was amazing) but don't stay at Apartments Lanterna....even at our cheap rate I wouldn't stay again.

Side Note: Also VERY noisy with a disco blaring every night until 4 am. Perhaps if I was in my 20's and single again this might be a great place....just not for a family with young kids.

We have just returned from a week in the Lanterna Appartments. The setting is beautiful but the resort is very isolated and without a car there is no way of seeing anything of the surrounding area. There is a bus into Porec which is about 10kms away but as the last bus back is at 17.20, this is not an option if you want to have dinner outside the resort. The apartments are badly equiped, no kettle, toaster or even very much to cook with. Although this resort was classed as being new, the 20 or so apartment blocks were shabby and reminded us of barracks. We arrived about 9pm at night and were left to find our own way in the pitch dark. It took about 15 minutes to get from reception along a maze of poorly lit paths through the woods. Not a experience I would recommend for the fainthearted. There are several restaurants at the resort but they all closed at 10pm and anyone arriving after 9 was not made to feel particularly welcome. The average cost of a meal for 2 was about £20 and the food was not inspiring. At the time we were there, not a lot of facilities were open although it may be different later on in the season. There is no pool but plenty of stone terraces with steps leading down into the sea which was extremely clean. Overall we enjoyed our trip to Istria but will not be returning to the Lanterna Appartments.
