“Tourist hotel in a park setting”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 October 2010

This is a good standard, tourist class, 3 star hotel. What sets it apart is that it occupies a stand alone site close to the Adriatic in pine woods. No traffic noise,no late night discos, hotel bar that closes at 11.30.If this sounds like a retirement home then that would be O.K. with me and most of the other patrons .
The room was unexceptional but clean and serviced properly every day ,the bathroom was showing some age but again properly cleaned daily.
Breakfast and dinner buffets were excellent and above 3 star standard ,most of the meat and fish dishes were cooked in small quantities at the buffet so were always at their best . This was good mediterranean style food cooked and presented well.
Drinks prices were about +50% up on Porec town prices but the Rubin isn't really a place for drinking so much that you'd go broke.
My only gripe would be the price of local wines ,sub spanish quality at 3x the price,to
be fair the same wines were not cheap even in the supermarkets.

“Perhaps my Best Holiday Ever!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 May 2010

I read the reviews here the night before I departed and almost tried to change the hotel! So glad I did not do so. The food was great: huge range and good quality. Low fat alternatives at breakfast. Loved the bacon (cut thick griddled but fat easily cut off) and the smoked cheese and other meats. They do not have great deserts but the cheeses and fruit excellent. No real niggles about anything. Reasonable disability access. No heated outdoor pool but access to the one with sea water at nearby Chrystal Hotel. As a single traveller I am used to getting a raw deal on rooms despite paying £100 supplement a week. Had nice double. Comfotable bed/nice white cotton sheet and light duvet. Heating was on when I arrived (26 degrees plus). Only complaint is that by design there is a 1" drop down into the bathroom: I thought I would break my neck and I certainly stubbed my toes a couple of times. I agree the entertainment was rubbish but then I prefer to sit and talk or read a book. I had fine weather: not too hot or too cold. Visited Venice but I would not recommend it as it takes 2.5 hours and on the return journey we were an hour over that time. Long hot day. I will not forget the views of the sea from the hotel; the smell of the mimosa bushes and the pine trees; red squirrels and birds and the wonderful walks along the coast. The prices in the cafes were on a par with UK as the £ was down to 7.8 kuna from 11 last year. I would love to return to Porec and the Rubin.

“Disaster”

We booked this hotel via internet. Price was affordable for two rooms (so called family room) because we have litlle baby. Cleaning lady did not do her job well. Hotel is full of staires so baby trolley needs to be carried a lot. Parking space was very hard to find. Hotel management sucks big time. They have a gestapo in dining room (not even an apple can be carried out of dining room). Better choose hotel Diamant or Kristal near by (100 m)

“Absolutely fantastic”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 September 2009

I really enjoyed my time in Porec, I can say that it was my best holiday ever. Porec is a lovely city, like Venice without the water. You can eat tons of fish and all other types of seafood but not ony. They've got everything for everyone. Be sure that you take a train trip to visist Plava laguna and Zelena laguna. They're quite nice.
With respect to the hotel, it's nice, 10 min walk to Porec and located in a lovely spot, amidst the trees and yet very close to the sea. The rooms are ok, not fantastic (we really missed a minibar) but it's a 3star hotel. You cannot expect more. The rooms are clean, not too large :) and the personnel is friendly. At breakfast you can eat anything you like, there is a vast variety of food, from cheese to pork, vegetables, pancakes, a.s.o.
The entertainment is not so great, there are a couple of bands playing every night, yet for the families with kids it's ok because the hotel has a "teens' club" where they can play and have fun all day long.

I'll definitely go back to Porec!

“Croatia, Fantastic, Hotel Rubin, Far from fantistic”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 August 2009

This hotel is set in beautiful surroundings and within ten minutes walk from Porec. The sun sets and panoramic views over the Adriatic are stunning.

Unfortunately the hotel lets it all down....... badly.

The Hotel is absolutely spotless it has to be said and the maids who look after the rooms work very hard to keep the place well presented.

The food was cold, boring and virtually the same every day. If you do not like squid and cured meats you will be eating out everyday. The hot food at breakfast is not worth even attempting to eat.

The restaurant is a canteen with canteen service and culture. The staff are more keen on getting the tables relayed than tending to the hotel guests and a twenty minute wait to get a glass of wine is not unusual.

The entertainment in the hotel is pathetic to the point of embarrassment. A two man group performing on our last night emptied the terrace bar faster than the fire alarm would have done.

The reception staff are mostly a waste of time apart from checking in and out. We had a couple of issues with our room when we arrived none of which had been resolved when we left.

Croatia is a lovely place and well worth visiting but this hotel is well giving a miss.

This holiday was to celebrate our 25th Wedding Anniversary. We were very disappointed.
