We booked a cheap flight to Trieste with Ryanair and hired a car for 5 days. The drive from Trieste was fairly straightforward, but entailed driving through Slovenia. Having read various internet articles about problematic border crossings (especially between Slovenia and Croatia) I was anticipating delays. In fact no problems at all and just a quick glance at the passports. We drove through Slovenia on the E61 which is non-motorway. I believe that if you do use the Slovenian motorways you have to buy a vignette in advance (or risk paying a hefty fine).
The house is situated in a small village / hamlet. No shops or amenities in the immediate vicinity, so transport is essential. As it was dark by the time we arrived It took us a little while to find. Inside was very clean, and more than enough room for 3 of us.
The gardens were very nice with fig, plum and grapes in abundance (which we had at breakfast whilst sat outside). Very rustic feel to the house, authentic decoration and original artworks.
Ivan the owner and his wife were very helpful, available but unobtrusive, and happy to provide information re places of interest. Ivan gave my daughter an impromptu art lesson which she really enjoyed.
Would definitely recommend the house and location for a quiet stay. Felt that we were in a rural part of Eastern Europe, whilst still being able to access busy beaches within 30 mins drive.
