“Great hotel for weekeend relaxation”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 November 2010

We just returned form hotel, we were very satisfied with the service, rooms are nicely decorated, pool area is great, and the gym area is one of the best I have ever seen in any hotel with exceptional view. Only two saunas are working, but they were just enough because there were not so many guests in the hotel so one can have enough privacy. We will come back for sure!

“The stone who wanted to be a diamond”

The installations of this hotel are exceptional, unique and outstanding. The different and numerous indoor and outdoor swiming pools are fabulous. The Spa is wonderfull. The architecture of the place is great and splendid. Cleanliness of the appartments, rooms and all the area hotel is very high.
...But that's all !!! , even if it's very important but not good enough.
Very very poor staff, unable to take a decision.
The beach is opened to everyone, even to not client from the hotel and there is no identification of the hotel guest. Result ?: many people on the beach can use seeseats and umbrellas from the hotel that the real clients of this hotel can't use because there are not enough. And, worth situation, when people a little bit rich share a place with other people a little less rich, you can be victim of thieves: our bag have been stolen, without any reaction of the staf. We recovered ourselves the bag (empty !) outside of the area, discovering that anyone can come inside the hotel area without any control !
At the swiming pools, its quite impossible to use a deck chair if you do not reserve it at 7:00 (which is theorically not admited....), or if you don't give some money to do it to the young people of t he staff (which is also theorically not admited....).
So, with 2.500 €/week for 4 persons, I think it's not allowable !!!
And you can also add some very amazing things for our occidental way of use when you discover few privileges granted to "nomenklatura people"....
My conclusion : exceptional location, beautiful facilities, but definitely not stay at the prices charged.
Perhaps this "resort" can be tried when it is less crowded....
The stone who wanted to be a diamond is finally an ordinary stone, but a very expansive ordinary stone !

“Simply Brilliant”

I used this hotel with a colleague, delivering a conference for a Croatian based client. They chose the hotel, and I was unsure what to expect having read the reviews posted here. I was surprised by the unexpectedly high quality of both the establishment and the service.

Reception, on arrival, was efficient and friendly (a good combination). Our bags were taken to our rooms whilst we were given a complimentary drink. The bar is in a vast atrium, that contains the reception, but welcoming and comfortable, with various different types of seats to appeal to all ages (and backs). The view over to the neighbouring island was simply breath-taking.

The rooms we had were spacious and spotless, with their own sitting room area and cleverly designed bathrooms - with a view of the sea if you were so minded. The beds were comfortable. The only minor quibble was there was a 'turn-down' service one night, but not the next.

I ate at the restaurant on two evenings. The service was very friendly, without being intrusive. Most staff had excellent English, and if they did not, they had an excellent attitude. The food was really impressive and the house wines were very good indeed. Breakfast was as good as any I have had anywhere - with abundant fruit, breads, cereals and a chef to cook up a quick omelet. Again, the only quibble is minor - there was no way to make tea with boiling water (essential if you are British) and the teas were generally herbal! The coffee of course, was excellent.

We had conference lunches on three days that were beautiful food, served with a flourish. It took a bit long on the first day, and the staff responded to our needs effectively on the subsequent two days.

The conference rooms were fine - with lovely views. Minor hassles were quickly sorted. Special mention should be made of Zvonimira Oresar, the Deputy Executive Manager, who was extremely helpful with our various conference needs.

On our final day a mistake was made in the way the conference room was set up. I spoke to a member of the catering staff (it was too early for conference staff) and she changed the room layout herself, with another staff member. This was one of many examples of staff responding flexibly and in a timely and friendly manner.

The SPA facilities are the biggest in Europe and were outstanding.

I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough - in terms of our actual experience.

“nice place - still unfinished, bad food, poor service - even with a new managment”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 December 2009

I went to Novi Resort first time in June of 2009. My first experience: very exclusive furnished hotel suites with a great sea view but on the other side a very poor service, bad food, no beach, no outdoor pool at the Spa .... unfished at all.
The former managment excused the situation and promised, that everything would be perfect by July.
To give them a second chance, I decided to come back for some days in September with my wife. Unfortunately, I couldn´t notice any improvement by then. The base of our bed was broken, no new soap available, miserable buffet dinner in the main restaurant, too few, dirty and broken sunbeds at an unfinished beach, no sandy beach (as offered on website), in-room internet access out of order, lacquer of our car damaged in garage (indefinable liquids dropping from first floor) .....
Several times, I went to the reception and tried to talk to the new hotel manager about the grievance, but he never had time!
Just to make it short: it´s a place with a lot of potential, but still operated by a bunch of amateurs.

“Good location - unfinished - very poor management”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 October 2009

I don't usually write reviews and if I do, I prefer to recommend a hotel to other people.
But this hotel was such a dissapointment I can't stand describing everything as it was.

Before going to this hotel I've read the reviews and noticed that the main problem of this hotel is said to be its low service level, which, in its turn, is determined by the hotel management. Some reviews mentioned some construction works still going on, and I enquired at the hotel about that and got a negative answer.
Having stayed in the hotel I can confirm that:

1 - the hotel is cheating the customers about all construction having been finished. In fact the place is a big construction spot, with all unpleasant views of it in many places, the works themselves simply interrupted by law for the summer period.

2 - the hotel is cheating its customers about the level of apartments. When you make a reservation, you are told the level is the same 5 star, but when you are there you learn you are a lower category guest, so you have to fight everyday to get cleaning services, and getting some bath cosmetics (from "Occitain" mentioned in the room description) becomes almost an impossible task. The housekeeping uses every excuse not to give it, and when from time to time, after a scandal with reception, it is forced to bring some, the number of these small portions is much less than the number of guests.

3-Very uncomfortable is the process of moving in the territory of the hotel with heavy luggage. The territory is car-free and big, there is a big fenced construction spot in the middle, and there is a very limited number of buggies and drivers. Generally most of the time you have to walk with all your bags instead of hopelessly waiting in the sun for a buggy. The people from the staff who could have given you a lift stand smoking and chatting nearby and watch you indifferently, maybe because it is not their turn to drive.

4-the staff is not very friendly and sometimes even rude. The spa pretends to be an independent institution and everytime you have to prove you are in fact a guest of the hotel rather that a side visitor sneaking into spa to use its services. Not to mention a big part of the spa is not operating yet.

5-there is no sand beach as stated in the description.Theoreticallly guests of the hotel are entitled to sunbeds and umbrellas in the beach which is also independent from the hotel, but in fact these are either occupied or broken. Not to mention there is a too limited number of sunbeds near pools so you don't have a chance to get something there as well if you don't occupy them at dawn. Very annoying for a 5 star hotel.

6-in the restaurant there is a limited number of waiters servicing many tables, so you have to wait a lot to be serviced. The choice of the buffet is limited and empty dishes on the buffet table stay unchanged. The food is average.

7-there are usually queues at the reception desk and your current problems aren't solved at once, so you have to keep calling or visiting the reception.

8- and finally, the atittude of the management to the guests. It seems not to be interested at all that the customers leave satisfied and come back with their friends. I think all said above proves that. If you have a problem and people from staff say they are not entitled to solve it and direct you to the hotel manager, it is simply impossible to reach her/him just to discuss the issue. You would keep writing e-mails which nobody answers, keep calling and being rejected connection to the manager and promised you get a call back-with no call back, of course.

So, making a summary - the location and the sea is great, the construction is still going on, the quality of the management is poor and prices are quite high and do not correspond to the current state of this place. It is by far not the 5 star level which you can find in other Croatian 5-star hotels. The main problem seems to be at the moment in the heads of the people running it, and this is the most difficult thing to correct, and the thing which creates the most negative impression. You could excuse some shortcomings, but when you understand nobody cares for your opinion, you would not definitely come back or recommend this place.
