“Very antiseptic, lacking character and feel”

Having travelled extensively in Croatia, this was one of the most soulless hotels we have been to. There was no problem with the accommodation just the feel of the place.....cold and antiseptic. As a perfect example, at dinner we opted for the Chef's choice 5 course dinner, they managed to serve the entire thing in 45 mins! Some kind of record! We did feel as if we were on a conveyor belt. I think this hotel was built for the Russian market ... very designery not a lot of class.

“Nothing close to 5 star”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 August 2011

If u are looking an exclusive place or at least the one which justifies its 5 star rating - u should stay away from Novi. Credit must be given to the amazing architecture of the hotel and the spa - and the spacious fitness room sporting all possible pieces of equipment and facing the sea is simply breath-taking. And that would be all. On the negative side, you would pay a 5star price to share the hotel facilities with not only the inhabitants of the apartment village but also the members of the public who are allowed against a daily fee. As for the welcome, we were "greeted" by a surly concierge who could not be bothered to help us with off-loading the luggage, or tell us where and how to park while being checked in. We had a room which really looked liked the pictures, if you do not have a zoom or suffer from sight problems. The bathroom was sporting unpainted stains, there are cracks, stains, chips and dysfunctional pieces of equipment everywhere. There were two tiny child-size armchairs (no cushions) and a table without a top for sitting on the balcony, so your highly-priced drinks and glasses must be kept on the floor. The hotel booklets available in the room are either deceiving and plainly incorrect (different references for the cash machine) or cryptic (how to use internet or the minibar, access the safe etc). Too few deck chairs, so get up early and be ready to fight for the one. The beach is public, small, and not of much use. The dinner buffet is generous (very good meat and fish quality, deplorable desserts) yet down to earth, nothing close to the 5 star level. The wine list includes only Croatian wines at exorbitant prices. Breakfast better is better, with no international tea selection (only Podravka, apparently a local brand), and poor bread assortment, coffee poured once after a a long wait. Staff poorly trained, mostly correct, sometimes friendly, and service altogether chaotic. At best you may go there for a day, take a plunge, go to the gym, and make a few pictures from the terrace - abandon all hopes to have a drink there as nobody would be asking you whether you would like to have the one. Btw, it is a family hotel.

“already deteriorating ...but still nice”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 August 2011

All the descriptions on how marvelous the design of this resort is, are true ... if you like to take fashionable pictures of architecture with or without your beloved company, the Novi Spa Hotel & Resort is really a nice setting.
But don't zoom in too close ! you might pick-up one of the many cracks, broken glass fences, or simply deteriorated surfaces. To my opinion this resort is too big to maintain. It currently has more the 35 "blocks" of apartments (each with about 10 luxurious apartments, but apparently not all with the same level, and some quite a distance (500 m) from the centre, and there are still blocks being constructed... Simply managing the regular cleaning and checking of the apartments needs a elaborated staff.
So yes it overpriced, overrated, ... but nice. We stayed in an apartment for 3 days, so we did not care about the hotel service ... the housekeeping was good (every day new towels, ...) our apartment was very close to the Spa... so we were satisfied. Except that at arrival the doors of the second bedroom and bathroom was locked ...easily opened with a table knife :-). The golfcar system sucks ... you need to wait longer then necessary.
Also the towel system on the beds near the pools sucks (you trade in your card for a towel, but then you need to find a sunbed to lay on... no sandy beaches !), just be a bit assertive and claim a bed that is clearly abandoned, if you want one.
I would not recommend it to my friends !

“Not even remotely 5 star!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 July 2011

I don't even know where to begin...the overall impression is that of a hotel that it has been half abandoned and is being operated by amateurs who don't take pride in their property. Obviously some people invested a lot of money into buying the property as the location is beautiful and the property huge, but the service is so terrible and the "luxury" apartments we stayed in are in disrepair, unfinished and horribly maintained. Wires sticking out, rooms half painted, terraces overrun with weeds and dirt, the worst housekeeping staff I have ever encountered. One day we asked for a couple extra pillows. 3 phone calls and 6 hours later the rudest housekeeper I've ever met arrived with one and said that is all we are entitled to and stomped away while we were in the middle of talking to her! Seriously?! 5 star? That wouldn't even happen in a 2 star. Besides all the ridiculous mismanagement, honestly the most disturbing thing is that directly next to our apartment is an enormous half built construction site with a 70-100 foot sheer drop with absolutely no fences, so anyone could just walk or drive into it and fall in and without a doubt, die. No signs warning you, just a drop. We jokingly call it Ground Zero but it really isn't funny. As a result, we never let my children out of our apartment to play alone because it is that scary. There is a pitiful sense that nobody really cares which is a shame because it has the basic infrastructure of, for example, a Marriott vacation resort where we have stayed before (big apartments, nice views...) but with complete neglect. Avoid at all costs! We did however stay at a fantastic 5 star Radisson Blu resort in Dubrovnik that was phenomenal. Highly recommended. But stay away from the Novi unless you don't expect high quality and are happy with old Soviet style mismanagement and spend your money elsewhere. At first glance it seems nice but very quickly you see all the unfortunate flaws.
Croatia is great and there are wonderful other places.

“AWESOME Vacation for Families! We're going back!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 July 2011

From the moment we checked in, we fell in love with the place. SAFETY!! No cars pass through the comples so an employee loaded our bags and us and took us to the apartment with a golf cart. Not having to worry about cars with kids is a big plus. There was a baby bed waiting for us and the apartment was cooled prior to us ariving. Every room has an AC unit with a remote. The place was clean every day with new towels once we returned from the pools/beach. The pools and cafes to choose from. 2 large pools ea. with it's own cafe/restaurant along with a kids pool full of entertaining surroundings. A great kids club with programs each evening. The staff extremely friendly and helpful. We also LOVED the unique design of the hotel itself and the food in the hotel restaurant was fantastic and plentiful each evening. Would have loved to see the rooms as well but we chose the apartment as apposed to the hotel rooms due to the convenience they provide for kids. Over all ... WE LOVED IT and are returning for another week next month.
