There's no lack of accomondation in Makarska and it should be easy to find one that pleases your needs. Earlier I've been staying mainly in private apartments, but as I just needed a room for the night I decided to try Biokovo that I'd passed so many times before. The hotel is on the main street running along the harbour shore and where most of the restaurants are situated. The building itself is old but nicely renovated. The rooms are on three floors and there's no lift, but they offer helf in carrying up the luggage. My room was on the top floor and wasn't that big, but clean, modern and had all what was needed. It also had a "closed balcony" with one chair and from there you could look out of a small window. You could admire the harbour and the sea. From the hotel it's just a three minute walk and you're at the fantastic beach, in fact everything is nearby; harbour, beach, mountain, old town, restaurants.... Even the ferry going to Brac island is just across the street. The breakfast was more then I expected and there wasn't anything missing. They even had a big piece of meat at display from where they cut the famous Adriatic prsut. In the evening I also tried out the restaurant of the hotel, which is one of the best along the Riva. They had everything from pizza to local dishes and sea food. Parking is a problem in Makarska, but the hotel could provide a parking place in a garage 3 minutes from the hotel and the price was less then 10 € a day.

We drove to Makarska in low season without a reservation, and the guy at the Tourist Information recommended Biokovo. The guy at reception was very friendly and gave us keys to check out the rooms before we made a decision (and then later in our stay he gave us keys to several larger rooms with balconies to check out for a future visit). The rooms were decent, clean, fairly basic - no cigarette smell which was a big plus. Be forewarned that there are no true queen size beds - they push two twins together. Prices were good too, and included a nice buffet breakfast. There is a great pizza restaurant in the hotel that did a very busy take-away business while we enjoyed dinner. We enjoyed our stay at this hotel, and would go back. Great location, right on the harbor/waterfront. The parking garage is not far from the hotel, but was a bit scary at first. After we got used to it, it was fine.

This hotel was fantastic. We had a spacious room, very clean with a balcony overlooking the harbour. The view was perfect! The bed was really big and comfortable and the bathroom was great- good shower pressure is always a plus!

It is the best location in the sense that you are in the heart of Makarska. There are endless restaurants, cafes and bars surrounding the hotel. It is only a 5 minute walk to the main beach which has markets and cheap food/drink facilities.

The staff were all polite and helpful and we enjoyed the breakfast provided. The only thing missing in this place is a lift but that would not be a deterrent to staying here. It truly is a wonderful hotel in an amazing location.

We immediately felt very unwelcome when we arrived. There was no parking outside the hotel and when we enquired about this the male receptionist gave us a map of a very convoluted route to some obscure carpark in an old unfinished building site. We were gob smacked. He said "it's easy, you'll find it". We were totally lost. The last thing you feel like doing after a long drive is to drive around a foreign town looking for a carpark. We had been told be the manager, prior to our arrival, that our car would be parked for us.

When we checked out the same receptionist ommitted to tell us that we could park right outside in a reserved space so that we could load our luggage into it. We had to leave our son to guard our luggage, walk to the carpark in the unfinished building site, bring the car back to a park way down the road from the hotel and then lug all our bags down to the car. NOT GOOD!

He also wouldn't explain our lunch receipts - we had one lunch there, which for some reason produced five receipts written in Croatian. He was very flippant and said they were 'meals'. By this stage we couldn't be bothered pursuing anything further with him - it was just too hard. So we paid for the five receipts.

Our room was "inch around the bed" material - and that's with our suitcases standing up. We paid alot extra to have our son in our room (it cost NZ$475 for one night!) and it was a ridiculous squeeze. Our deck was disgusting, it was a storage place for old hoses. We couldn't believe our eyes. We had to keep the curtains closed.
