“Past Its Prime...”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 May 2011

We booked this hotel for one night and arrived early evening. There was a large tourist group from Germany that had just arrived before us. When we tried to check in, we were told that our room had been given away by mistake and we had to take another room that had no view. I did not like the room (dark w/no view) and asked the front desk to find another room with the requested view. We were told by Marko, at the front desk, that we could not be given a nicer room because we had booked on Booking.com and since the prices were cheaper on their site, we could not get the nicer rooms. He told us that if we had booked directly through the hotel, we would have paid more and gotten a nicer room! He had absolutely no customer service skills. The hotel must have been wonderful years ago, but now it is worn and shabby and the remodeling through the years has not been done well. Our room was small w/cigarette burns in the carpet and an overall feeling that it had seen better times a long time ago. The one upside was the dining room which was large and elegant and served a wonderful breakfast that could be taken on the terrace facing the ocean. It's a shame that the rooms were not kept up because it could have been a lovely stay.

“Nice hotel but outdated”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 October 2010

Nice view from room, good room and good breakfast. Service at check-in was friendly but confused about our reservations (number of nights of stay).

“Old-world elegance in an idyllic setting”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 October 2009

We had a "non-sea-facing" room, but it had a private balcony, with the most incredible view of the ocean on the side of the hotel.

On arrival, we found the receptionist to be friendly, very helpful and efficient. The car park was free.

This was like stepping back in time to old-world luxury. Breakfast on the terrace overlooking the Adriatic was a magnificent buffet in a wonderful setting. I would recommend the Bristol to anyone visiting Lovran or Opatija. It is a 5-min. Bus ride into Opatija, which has much more expensive hotels and restaurants. There is also the Lungamare walk right in front of Bristol, all along the ocean.

This hotel is unfortunately often mistaken for the Bristol Hotel in Opatija! It is NOT the same - and we would always choose to return to lovely Lovran and Hotel Bristol there, rather than stay in overpriced, touristy Opatija.

We could not have an a la carte meal in the evening, only a full buffet which we thought too expensive. So we opted for a nearby inexpensive local restaurant. An a la carte evening menu at Hotel Bristol would be welcome!

“days gone bye”

a large hotel with charming atmosphere and predominantly middle to lower middle-class clientele (no snobbism meant !!). Friendly and competent reception staff, rooms large, could do with some refurbishing but all in good style and clean, balcony sea view was great. Plenty of food in fin de siecle dining room or even outdoor terrace weather permitting. The house has surely seen much better days and could be moved to more upmarket rating with some investment. Parking no problem. Overall recommended.

“Past its prime, but quaint and charming!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 August 2009

I spent one night at the Hotel Bristol in early June. My room had a lovely view over the coastline; the room’s small balcony offered views of both the coast and the gulf – lovely! The room’s furnishings were undoubtedly once quite elegant and had been well maintained, but the building and its furnishings were decidedly past their prime. Still, my room was well appointed, very clean, and very comfortable.

The breakfast buffet held a generous array of delicious foods, with a much wider and fresher range of options than I had expected from this small hotel.

I was also very favorably impressed by the manager, who was helpful, professional, and knowledgeable about the area.

I walked the beautiful Lungomare to Opatija and was very pleased that I had chosen to stay in the quieter, more laid-back town of Lovran rather than Opatija, with its masses of resorts, restaurants, shops, bars, and tourists. If you also want a more quiet experience, the quaint and charming Hotel Bristol is well worth considering.
