“potential - but needs maintenance”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 October 2010

Would like to be able to recommend this hotel but really... can't. What's good? Fantastic location, 10 min. from the bus and train stn, right on the waterfront and just outside Diocletian's palace. Good breakfast. Room with an ocean view. Friendly staff. Room is basic; typical 3 star limitations - small room, small bed, saggy mattress, but clean. However, major downside is the room maintenance - the door of the minibar was torn off and sitting on the floor, the towel rack was broken and - the kicker - the shower door had been torn off. Hard to keep the water inside the shower without a door! Granted, it was the end of the tourist season but if this hotel cares about its reputation.... they need to make more of an effort to rent out rooms in working order.

“Out of the very high season may be very disappointing”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 September 2010

The Adriana is probably the best place to stay in Hvar if (a) you like to party, AND (b) you are going to Hvar in the very high season - their top bar seems to be the place to see and be seen in July and August. Otherwise it may be very disappointing.

The pool looks nice, BUT it is indoor and not heated (or at least did not seem to be), which makes it hard to use out of the very high season.

The jacuzzi also looks nice, BUT you can only use it if you book a treatment at the SPA (i.e., if you are able to find a slot at the SPA, and if you pay for it).

Service at the top bar was very good, BUT out of there was awful. Once we went to the pool for a swim (just to say we did, because the water was really cold), and there were no towels around. When we asked a hotel employee who was passing by where we could find them, he told us to go down one floor to the SPA to get them. Quite embarrasing. We then booked one of the 4 boats they rent for an excursion to the islands in the next day. They obviously charge more then the agencies down the waterfront for that, but we decided to book it through the hotel anyway not to have any trouble. Huge disappointment. When we approached the concierge in the morning to ask where we should go to board the boat, she told us the boat was out of order and that they would offer us a better boat for the same price. Our happiness did not last very long. They made us wait for 30 minutes at the waterfront just to tell us that the other boats were also out of order, and it took us one hour and a half and a lot of complaing to get them to send us another boat. A boat then arrived - BUT the sun was already gone. The excursion was fine, BUT when we returned they did not care to apologize for almost ruining our day, did not offer any discount, nothing. Terrible.

Last but not least, beware of the water bottles they "offer" in the room. Read the little sign they put around them and you will see that they are charged for - at 3 Euros each.

Our overall impression is that it would not hurt for the hotel chain to which the Adriana (and several other hotels in Hvar) belongs to face some real competition.

Dear Sir/Madam,

Thank you for staying at Adriana, hvar spa hotel, a member of Leading Small Hotels of the World, recognized for its modern design and luxurious spa facilities. Before dealing with remarks which you have brought up in your review, we would like to thank you for taking the time to leave your comments.

As a part of their stay, the guests at hotel Adriana have a privilege to use our indoor seawater swimming pool free of charge. The pool is heated year round to a temperature of 26 degrees Celsius. The pool is located at hotel rooftop with open air terraces for sunbathing, with the view of Hvar harbour and old town. To ensure the peace and maximum privacy in using the whirlpool, which is located outside the spa, on the open air terrace, we have decided to offer it as an extra value to the guests who use spa treatments. The spa staff supplies the towels every 20 to 30 minutes to the pool, more often if necessary. Sensorí spa is a member of the Leading Spas, and our staff provides service on high levels at all times. This has been confirmed by many of our satisfied guests, which have used the spa services and pool for the past three years. Please let me assure you that your experience as described in your review is truly rare and we apologize if it has spoiled your stay with us. With regards to the bottles of water in rooms, they have labels with prices clearly stated.

Our experienced concierge staff pays attention to each individual guests' needs and does everything to make each trip a pleasant experience. In cases such as this one, where we cooperate with third partiy in providing services to our guests, unpredicted technical difficulties may occur, in which case we immediately look for solutions. Apologies are always offered as well as discounts, if possible.

In the end, thank you once again for sharing your thoughts and experiences about your stay with us and we truly hope to see you again in the future.
For any further inquiries, please feel free to contact us at any time.

With best regards,
Adriana, hvar spa hotel team

“Mind the bugs dont bite!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 September 2010

I have stayed at this hotel as an overnight en route to the Croatian islands on a few previous occasions and never encountered any problems, even though it is a tad basic. My husband and I arrived late and were shown to our room, which was absolutely filthy. It had obviously not been cleaned as the previous occupiers shirts were still in the wardrobe, which he had obviously forgotten. Anyway we were really tired and settled down to sleep as at least the bedding looked clean. We were both awoken by being bitten, turned on the light and were confronted with masses of huge disgusting bed bugs. The most revolting sight I have ever across. As it was nearly morning and we could not longer sleep we spent the next two hours till dawn sitting on the edge of the bed. We then decided to have a hot shower to wake us up and counteract the bites - guess what - only luke warm water in the shower. We complained to the receptionist who suddenly could no longer speak English and did not understand what we were saying. Thought we would have breakfast before leaving for the ferry and were served with the most greasy and revolting "omelette" imagineable. I realise it is the end of the season and the hotel is probably touristed out, as it were, but surely the housecleaning staff are trained to spot signs of bedbugs on the mattress and sheets. We got out of there as quickly as we could - as obviously did the previous occupant, leaving his shirts behind!

“Lovely but over priced”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 September 2010

Location, location, location as they say! That's what probably drives the price up, that and the hotel facilities which are pretty good (spa, roof top terrace etc). At £300-ish (superior, sea view room) a night I would have expected more. Whilst not disappointed, expectations were not exceeded either .... a missed opportunity for a hotel claiming to be one of the Luxury Hotels of the World. Whilst probably exceptional for Croatia/Hvar, on an international scale it has a way to go before it competes hands down with other luxury hotels we've visited across Asia and more developed parts of Europe.

The rooms are very small and the service fine, but I wouldn't say we were overly delighted.

However the spa is excellent - we had 3 massages each when we were there and the therapists deserve praise when it comes to the quality of the treatments and their service attitude. There was also a waiter and a bell boy that both went out of their way to make us feel welcome but the surly Croatian service ethos still exists more broadly across the staff as we found in other parts of our stay ...

Overall, I would take advantage of the '4 nights for price of 3' offer as this helps drive overall cost down and therefore value-for-money equation up ... but I would say if you're a seasoned luxury hotel traveller you might be feeling a bit short changed by a lovely, but not exceptional overall stay.

“overpriced, too noisy and no sleep”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 August 2010

The hotel is situated in hvar in the middle of the very nice habour. The hotel was very dissapointing. It was too noisy, not clean as it should be for a leading hotel of the world hotel.
We had a so called suite on the 4th floor, next to the elevator and saw that the room was also next to the hotel own club, bar. We asked the concierge if the room is going to be loud because of the location and the elevator. He told us that he cant give us an indication and that it was depending upon the DJ!!!
We had two sleepless nights !!! In addition to it, the directory and the brochure mentioned that the bar and the club are closing at midnight. In fact the club was open until 2am.
Further the room was ok, but not clean. We had a big spot in the carpet and mould in the bathroom.
We complained to the hotel manager and he told us that he has exactly 70 days to make money in the high season and that he is very sorry for the noise and that the doorman was not doing a good job last night. The club guests from outside the hotel were too lound and not the right level.
We left the hotel earlier then expected and were really sad. We have seen a lot of hotels around the world and stayed in a lot of leading hotels of the word, but this was the most disappointing one and should not be marked as a LHW.

Dear Mr Roger & Mrs Rosemarie,
Before dealing with the delicate matters that you have brought up in your review, we would like to thank you for taking the time to leave your comments. We also thank you for giving us the opportunity to publicly clear any misunderstanding to those who read about hotel Adriana.
Adriana, hvar spa hotel, offers 50 Superior rooms and 9 Spa suites, all of which feature cable/satellite/pay TV, mini-bar, electronic in-room safe, smart card access key, room and bathroom amenities and daily housekeeping service. All rooms and public areas of the hotel are fully air conditioned and covered with wireless interent. Spa suite, with size of 42 sqm, consists of a living room, bedroom with a king size bed, and a bathroom with jacuzzi. The Top bar is open both for general public and hotel guests and it fully respects maximum noise restrictions and regulations. The hotel is located in the centre of Hvar town, which is a very busy area in high season in summer months. This means that noise from the outside may disturb the rooms with view of the harbour.

Once again, we would like to thank you for your sincere observations with regards to your stay. If you have any other inquiries, please feel free to contact us any time.

With best regards,
