“Great Place to Tan”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 January 2012

We were on a girls trip to simply drink and tan and Amfora provided the perfect place to do both. The pool was gorgeous and we didn't have any trouble getting chairs. Loved the swim-up bar. I can't comment on the food as we made the short walk to town to eat most days. I would agree that the layout of the hotel is strange and can require a long walk and navigation of a maze to get to your room. Fine for us but if you had any mobility issues, this would be an issue for sure. Perhaps we got a better rate than other reviewers but we found it to be amazingly affordable.

“We expected more...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 January 2012

We stayed at the Amfora Hotel in the summer 2011. The outdoor area is phenomenal... very well maintained and beautifully designed as was mentioned by other reviewers. The hotel itself is large but, with such a strange layout, we never knew where our room was. We were always getting lost - the lower floors are like a maze with dozens of little steps leading to sub-floors. The first room we had was laden with mold under the toilet area and the shower leaked. Management refused to believe that this was the case and they came to see for themselves, all the while trying to convince us that this was normal in such a climate. After many discussions, our room was moved and we thus began our holiday.

I am surprised that no one mentioned the terraces and how they lock from the outside when they are closed. We saw 2 individuals stranded on their terrace screaming for help because they were locked out of their room after closing the patio doors to conserve their AC. We actually called the front desk to alert them (as did many others) and they were finally rescued. Bottom line - please be careful when shutting your terrace doors!

The dinner buffet in the restaurant was the worst food on our entire trip. We loved the food in Croatia and never had a poor meal until we arrived at the Amfora. Just awful and grossly expensive. We were so disappointed. All around the hotel and into town there are fabulous restaurants - stop there to eat. It will be less expensive and most probably - unbelievably tasty.

We rented a car so, traveling into town was fine for us. We didn't mind that it wasn't in the center or a 10 minute walk. We enjoyed the location and the scenery.

Generally, we found that the staff was very impersonal and the hotel was not a stand-out during our vacation. We would not stay here again and recommend to do much research on other properties in the area before deciding to stay at the Amfora.

Room Tip: Try not to stay on the lower floors - getting to your room will be like going through a maze.

“Water dripping from hotel room ceiling ...”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 January 2012

We traveled thru Croatia by car, and drove into Hvar to stay at the Amfora Hotel. We booked months in advance. When we arrived, there was no valet parking. We had to park the cars ourselves. The rooms we were given were FAR from the beach. The room size was fine but we found out that water was dripping from the upstairs into our bathroom. I complained to the front desk, but no action was done as water continued dripping from morning till evening. No one came by to inspect or changed our rooms as it was peak season. If anyone wants proof, I took a 5-minute video of the water dripping and also showed this video to the front desk. Needless to say I'm not impressed. The hotel external facilities were nice but their internal hotel employee service sucks from the front desk to their restaurant. I was told this was a 4-star hotel, but personally after staying their, its the first and last time I'm going back with my family. The "water dripping from ceiling" video I shot is proof that enough of the quality of the room.

Room Tip: Don't bother. We booked months in advance but when we arrived, they gave us what was "left...

“Nice hotel, nice pool”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 December 2011

We stayed here in August as part of our Summer holiday.
The hotel was fresh, modern and very clean. Our room was comfortable although not huge.

We arrived very early in the morning and the staff were happy for us to use the pool area until it was time to check in

The pool area is large and well designed, however we had to get up at 8am in order to get a lounger as everyone ran down before breakfast to reserve them, we saw people do this and not return until 3 PM. There are signs saying this is not allowed, but staff could be more vigilant at enforcing this as the pool area was never actaully that full.

The walk into town takes around 10 minutes and is a nice flat walk, there are lights along the path

There is a small beach just beyond the pool area which allows you to swim in the lovely blue Croatian Sea

Tip - the poolside food is expensive but there is a little restaurant just up the hill on the way into town, about a 3 minute walk from your lounger, that does lovely pizzas at very reasonable prices and great service. We also went for an evening meal there and it was packed with locals.

“Expensive overall”

My wife and I decided to stop in Hvar for 5 nights as part of our European trip. After a few searches on the net, we realised that there were not too many hotel choices on the island and decided to go to amfora based on the reviews we read on Tripadvisor. Let's start with the positive. The resort was lovely, great pool, our room was nice and comfortable and it is only a 10 mns walk to the town. On the other hand, the food was not great (ie breakfast had plenty of choices but the quality was not there), we had to wait 2 hours for our room and the reception desk was completely indifferent, the pool chairs were all occupied on a daily basis from 9.30 am to 6 pm with people leaving their towels and coming back after a few hours. Overall, we thought that the rooms were expensive for the service received. The highlight of the stay was the town itself and a restaurant called Dalmatino.
