Cavtat is a charming interesting place but this guest house owner went out of her way to insinuate herself into every aspect of our time there. Firstly, on our first night she walked straight into our room; whilst we were resting after a long journey and insisted that ' her plants on the balcony get watered'. Then the next day we were given beach towels by her colleague and upon our return from the beach she was there berating us for using the wrong towels as if we were schoolchildren ! As I had been poorly with a 'flu type bug' we had decided on staying a few more days ( we had planned a grand tour of the Balkans) and never have I been 'jerked around ' more by anyone --we were told we could stay on in the morning and told to check out in the evening --then told we could stay then told we couldn't stay --If you want your head playing with then stay at HAUS AM MEER ! Also she insists on her guests paying cash . You would be better avoiding this place --truly .

Nothing was too much trouble for Zora. The double room with pull-out sofa was spacious, clean and comfortable. The bathroom was lovely and there was plenty of storage space for luggage. There was a private terrace with two sun loungers and a table for four.

The guest house is located 10 minutes walk from the centre of Cavtat. It is situated on a quiet road, but there is a somewhat steep walk from the centre of town to the road so could be a challenge for those with mobility problems who are travelling without a car. There is a beach nearby and beach towels, hats and umbrellas are readily available at reception.

We really enjoyed our stay at the guest house and would definitely recommend it to others as it Very good value for money and an excellent experience overall.

We stayed at Haus am Meer to go to a wedding in nearby Dubrovnik. I have a six month old and the owner had put a beautifully clean cot in the room which looked new. The owners would do anything to help improve your stay. There was large breakfast buffet which was all freshly cooked. The whole place was spotlessly clean and tidy. The air conditioning was much appreciated as it ws very hot and humid.
Location was hard work as it is up a big hill which was hard with a pram, but cavtat is all hills so all accomodation there would be like this and Haus am Meer isn't as far up the hill as some of the other places.

This hotel was perfect in every way for us. A really warm welcome from Zora on our arrival was followed by hospitality you don't often come across. Everywhere in the hotel was spotless and the thought and attention to detail to ensure her guests were comfortable was a real credit to Zora and Ivana.
