Do not come to Krk the way we did – without a reservation on an August weekend, and with a dog. Silly ex-patriates expecting a rustic uncrowded island, and by-passing more northerly towns thinking we’d find fewer tourists in Baska, we were totally unprepared for the teaming humanity occupying every spot on the three-meter wide beach. My husband started calling around and the kind lady at the Atrium Residence said “We don’t allow dogs in our hotel! But you can stay in our Villa Adria.” Both hotels are located in the center of the Baska strand. Not cheap, the clean and spacious room at Villa Adria was 93€ per person per night with breakfast, which we gladly paid to escape the crowds. The décor very modern and elegant, beautiful colors and wood furniture, an extremely comfortable king-size double bed with high-quality pillows and linens, a comfortable private balcony, free Internet, small refrigerator (we did not have a kitchenette), a clean bathroom with large porcelain soaking tub, wonderful shower, good lighting and granite countertop. If you are lucky enough to get a room facing the water (we were not, and they might cost more) you will have a to-die-for view. The hotel staff was extremely helpful in German or English. The breakfast buffet was in the Atrium Residence main building, very elegant and top-end. Not sure I’ll come to Krk again in August, but if there I’d stay at Villa Adria in a heartbeat. We ate close by at Cafe Lantino and had wonderful fresh fish, chosen from the vitrine.
