I would never go back to Dali until they build a better service hotel. Nobody would offer any greeting at the door. Worst experience:
1. Moving suitcases down the winding hallway and see mouse running down the courtyard.
2. Find mosquito in room. Spending a night wondering where it was.
3. Restaurant service is worst than a cheap fast food store in Kunming.
4. Service supervisor was ready to assume customer was always wrong. My fellow tour mate asked for a cleaner glass.

The hotel had a huge spacious, unheated lobby area, not where you want to sit out in November. It was a long walk to my room, all in unheated space, some of it outdoors. Reminded me of a Best Western. The staff was helpful and check-in was speedy. They gave us electric space heaters for our rooms.

The restaurant served the standard Chinese buffet breakfast. All the food was cold and were the dishes. What is the point of putting hot coffee in an ice cold cup?

The hotel was billed to us as a five star. This is not a five star property. It was convenient and a very low cost cab ride to the center of Old Town Dali.

The room had two English channels onTV and hot water for the shower ! Clean and comfortable. This hotel was functional for a one night stay.

We spent one night in this large hotel. Hotel consists of several large buildings. Our room was on the top floor of the main hotel. Very far away from elevator and it took about 10 minutes to get from room to the lobby of the hotel. First, the long walk to the elevator and then wait on elevator and finally a short walk from the elevator (past several shops) to the main lobby. Room was large and acceptably clean. Bathroom was very clean with acceptable amenities. Since our visit was in middle October 2011 the weather was warm and no air conditioning. We requested that some type of fan or cooling device be sent to our room and it was forthcoming. This was good and got us through the late evening and night.
I guess this hotel has no air-conditioning. Our breakfast was included in cost of room, and it was just OK. Nothing exciting. Some fruit and bread is all that I ate. Most of it was Chinese food.
This hotel is very near one of the entrances to Dali ancient town. It is a good location. Lobby of hotel is nice with ornate oriental furniture, marble and jade. Nice to just sit for a short time and take it all in. It seems that this hotel caters to large Chinese tour groups. I usually find the Chinese tourist to be very loud and when you are tired it is very difficult to listen to the loud voices for very long. Unfortunately, they are everywhere and it is difficult to get away from them.
Dali ancient town is interesting, but very crowded. Most of the shops have the same type of things that I guess tourists will buy. There are some nice silver shops if you want jewelry.

Dali used to be of the beaten track - a stepping stone into Yunnan now it is on the chinese highway (nearly finished) between Kunming and Lijiand and it is a tourist trap with hordes of tourists
This huge hotel is divided in different buildings. Rooms are great (we were alloocated kind of suite) TV with some english programs. staff as usual helpfull.
Hotels caters to many many(loud) chinese tour groups. Restaurant is a disaster.
