“In a word... paradise.”
If you're looking for a peaceful oasis in Dali, this is it. Located on the western edge of lake Erhai, this small hotel is fantastic. A very cool blend of modern and ancient design, the hotel is located in a small village about a 30 minute bike ride from the city's main attraction, the ancient town Dali Gucheng.
We stayed one night in the master suite and took a luxurious bath as the sun rose over the mountains on the opposite side of the lake. The suite was booked for the rest of our stay so we moved into one of the smaller rooms on the second floor which is nice and cozy.
A few tips... Bring warm clothes if you're coming in winter as the rooms aren't heated (but they have heat blankets for the beds so the nights are warm). If you want to come and go when you please, you should definitely rent some bikes in the old town and plan on bringing a bike light if you want to come back at night. For your first arrival you can easily get a taxi to come to the village, but you'll need someone from the hotel to meet you as there are many winding roads and alleys that lead to the hotel. (Well worth it because it means the hotel is peaceful and remote.) You can bargain for a taxi ride for about 50-60 RMB from the main bus station in downtown to the hotel. Then when the driver finds the village, call the hotel (the owner speaks English) and they'll send someone to come get you. Little bit of extra work getting here, but it is SOO worth it. Highly recommended!
