Oxmoor Rd is not a great exit to stay in Bham. This exit is dead with nothing but a gas station open close to the hotel. I would suggest Lakeshore Pkwy one or two exits up. This hotel is convenient to the interstate and close to the UAB exit and that's why we stayed here. My son was having surgery at UAB and the decent hotels downtown were too pricey but what they say is true for the most part. You get what you pay for. Our two nights in this hotel would have only paid for one night anywhere else so it depends on what you want.
The bed was ok comfortable but it didn't have a fitted sheet, just a regular sheet to lay on, then another sheet and an old shabby blanket and a smelly bedspread. We could never get the A/C right, it was either too cold or stuffy. There were little flying black bugs in the room (like fruit flies maybe?) They were easy to kill (I killed about 12 of 'em) but who wants bugs in their room? The floors were dirty. You couldn't walk barefooted w/o having black feet. I wouldn't even sit on the sofabed, it just looked nasty. We only talked to one staff person upon checking in and she wasn't the nicest person - you could tell she'd rather be somewhere else.
The room opened up to the pool so that was nice and they had a lot of grassy area where we could get out and play ball with our son. There was a frig and microwave. The continental breakfast wasn't too desirable though.
So all in all, I wouldn't suggest to anyone to stay here but for the price, it's ok. We lived! and we're home with our son after surgery! Basically, this is just an old hotel that needs to be upgraded and remodelled.
