“It's now an Econo-Lodge and shows it”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 July 2008

I've stayed at this location several times before, but this was the last time. I stayed two nights, one on each end of a vacation. The first night was OK, but the last wasn't. This has recently been downgraded to an Econo-Lodge and when you see it, you'll understand why. It has outdoor corridors. OK, I can deal with that, otherwise I wouldn't have stayed there. I was staying in room 100 which is on the outside corner of the first floor. The room needed new carpet desperately. Lots of stains. I also had a "companion" for the night of the 6-legged kind. I was talking to the front desk about the noisy group on the stairs outside the door when it walked in, so I couldn't get to a shoe fast enough to squish it. Made me wonder what other "things" might be in there. Another reason we'd booked there was that there was a Waffle House next door, so having a 6 AM flight, that would be about the only place open to eat before we left. Walked in there about 3 AM only to be told they were out of food. I don't recommend going to the WH on University Ave and I-65 about that time on a Fri morning either. The 3 security guards outside should have been a clue. Back to the subject, this hotel has gone down considerably in the past few years. I'd think twice before staying there.

“Nasty, nasty place”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 January 2007

I spent a few days here because of nearby business; it was horrible. Mold in the carpet from a leaking air conditioner; complaints regarding it went unheard. Poor maid service; sometimes they changed the towels and added shampoo; sometimes not.

Overnight packages that arrived simply languished at the desk; they did not have sense enough to notify the guest.

A burly, nasty "security guard" with an unnecessarily prominently displayed gun lurked in the lobby, giving all the evil eye....even guests.

The pool was closed, and stayed closed, without explanation.

The lobby staff seemed functionally disabled; downright stupid.

Birmingham has a great freeway system, and a lot of hotels. Go up the road an exit or two and get away from this dump!

“Wouldn't Recommend It!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 August 2006

Oxmoor Rd is not a great exit to stay in Bham. This exit is dead with nothing but a gas station open close to the hotel. I would suggest Lakeshore Pkwy one or two exits up. This hotel is convenient to the interstate and close to the UAB exit and that's why we stayed here. My son was having surgery at UAB and the decent hotels downtown were too pricey but what they say is true for the most part. You get what you pay for. Our two nights in this hotel would have only paid for one night anywhere else so it depends on what you want.

The bed was ok comfortable but it didn't have a fitted sheet, just a regular sheet to lay on, then another sheet and an old shabby blanket and a smelly bedspread. We could never get the A/C right, it was either too cold or stuffy. There were little flying black bugs in the room (like fruit flies maybe?) They were easy to kill (I killed about 12 of 'em) but who wants bugs in their room? The floors were dirty. You couldn't walk barefooted w/o having black feet. I wouldn't even sit on the sofabed, it just looked nasty. We only talked to one staff person upon checking in and she wasn't the nicest person - you could tell she'd rather be somewhere else.

The room opened up to the pool so that was nice and they had a lot of grassy area where we could get out and play ball with our son. There was a frig and microwave. The continental breakfast wasn't too desirable though.

So all in all, I wouldn't suggest to anyone to stay here but for the price, it's ok. We lived! and we're home with our son after surgery! Basically, this is just an old hotel that needs to be upgraded and remodelled.

“too greedy”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 October 2005

had booked this hotel through our agents when we picked up our tickets at agents we also collected all our hotel confirmation we were doing a fly drive holiday and this hotel was our last destination . There were four in our party with two seperate rooms when we arrived very late that night we were told there was no booking for either party and there was not any space on the second and last night of our holiday we would have to make other arrangements we were speaking to the manager and there was nothing she could do.After about four hours of re-arranging our travel agents sorted out accomadation in atlanta where we were due to fly back from.It turns out there was a Nascar event and the hotel had cancelled our booking unbeknown to our agents because they wanted more money for the rooms as this was a big event, they became too greedy and very nearly ruined the last three days of our holiday.

“Needs some attention”

If you like Comfort Inns, I would pick another location that the one on Oxmoor in Birmingham. Although the staff was polite, the rooms need some attention. Did not seem as clean as other Comfort Inns we have stayed in. Also acess to the hotel is very confusing.
