I called to book a King Suite for two guests for two nights, and every time I called I had to wait minutes for someone to pick up. Then whoever picked up was
a) not friendly
b) definitely not competent
Well I made the mistake of going with the reservation because historic boutique hotels in my city generally have a great reputation and I assumed the same for Birmingham (and there were limited luxury hotels...nicest is a Sheraton?).
Had to cancel and book with the historic Tutwiler, which while "standard", is full-service with the reputation of Hampton Inn behind it. I called when it was 6:00 a.m. their time and immediately a friendly staff member picked up and I was able to book easily at the other historic hotel (Tutwiler).
BIG difference in impressions, the Redmont was cancelled.
AND THEN, for confirmation, just look at the pictures! I would give them a chance, personally (maybe...though the service was atrocious just on the phone), but I have a big heart for independent businesses and historic hotels. I would not put a CEO in the best room in this hotel...not a chance.
