The staff at the front desk was not friendly. The marble floors are dirty and have not been polished. The carpet is very old. The furniture in the lobby and rooms needs to be refinished or discarded- currently some of the furniture is draped with sheets. The mattress and pillows are uncomfortable. The bedding is poor quality. No information was provided about hotel services. Self parking for $5 in a questionable area is required.

“disapointing”

Old hotel with much potential but has not been maintained. Thins along with little attention to detail and minimal staff and it has a creey, errie feeling.

“living history”

Great staff ! Lovely room. This is a piece of history. As you sit at the sky top lounge just think 87 years ago this grand hotel opened ! No points other than life points. Keep the history alive what a great experience. You had to park across the street wow where was the last city you parked. A city view , great bartender, thank you ! Did i mention my bed that was live n'.

“Bad Service From Get-Go”

I called to book a King Suite for two guests for two nights, and every time I called I had to wait minutes for someone to pick up. Then whoever picked up was

a) not friendly
b) definitely not competent

Well I made the mistake of going with the reservation because historic boutique hotels in my city generally have a great reputation and I assumed the same for Birmingham (and there were limited luxury hotels...nicest is a Sheraton?).

Had to cancel and book with the historic Tutwiler, which while "standard", is full-service with the reputation of Hampton Inn behind it. I called when it was 6:00 a.m. their time and immediately a friendly staff member picked up and I was able to book easily at the other historic hotel (Tutwiler).

BIG difference in impressions, the Redmont was cancelled.

AND THEN, for confirmation, just look at the pictures! I would give them a chance, personally (maybe...though the service was atrocious just on the phone), but I have a big heart for independent businesses and historic hotels. I would not put a CEO in the best room in this hotel...not a chance.

Would never stay here!!!!
Elevator works sometimes got stuck several times I work for a major airline and unfortunately they put us up there but we are switching the Sheraton is great new updated rooms also doubletree
