“One if the better hotels”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012 via mobile

We stayed at the Altiplanico during the first week of February 2012.

The hotel is located a little off the main pedestrian drag in San Pedro de Atacama. The main pros are the pool, included breakfast, helpful reception. The rooms were clean, with nice outdoor showers and water was filtered and drinkable.

The negatives included the kitchen (the quality of food in San Pedro wasn't upto par with rest of Chile and in-line with the prices) and the ants that were all over the place (even though they didn't bite us during our stay).

Also, consider renting your own 4x4 or 4x2 from Calama airport as it gives you a ton of flexibility. The trip to the salt flats to view Flemingoes, Valle de Luna and El Tatio geyser are all best explored at your own pace and schedule if you have your own set of wheels. In any event, Altiplanico provides good value for money at the higher end, though not at the same level as Awasi and Explora.

“wonderful place great service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

we stayed here 4 nights last week at the end of our 4 weeks in So. Amer. Great ambiance, very helpful staff, good breakfast. this hotel was so helpful on suggested itineraries as we had rented a truck so we could go on our own. Only drawback but also a plus is that it is a little out of town but that meant it was quiet and the outside showers reminded us of Africa. The staff gave us a late check out even though they were quite busy. Such a cool place.

Room Tip: we stayed in room 306 - at the end and really quaint.

“Nice hotel”

We stayed here in Dec 2011, a very good hotel with plenty of hot water and nice amenities, very much appreciated after the basic places in the Bolivian salt flats.
We ate at the hotel restaurant a few times, since our day tours usually finished late. The food was good and service was pleasant.
The location was what let it down a little, it's a bit of a hike to the main street of town, where all the restaurants and shops were. There were also no exchange facilities available at the hotel. You have to walk into town, a bit annoying since the road was dusty, full of dogs and quite deserted (fields on either sides of the road) in some places.
Housekeeping was adequate, although they don't really understand the concept of "do not disturb", ours kept knocking on the door asking to clean our room and did it straight away when we left to have lunch on one of the days we were there.

“This is the best hotel in Chile, and one of my top 10 hotels in the world.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 December 2011

This hotel is by far one of the best hotels I have stayed in Chile, but also in my top 10 hotels of the world.
What a wonderful place, so calming, lots of quiet areas, just to sit and read a book, next to the gardens, listening to the huming of the bees, or on the sofas next to the pool, catching a lovely breeze, or watching the stars on outdoor sofas at night.
The rooms are very unusal, yet once again calming, and cool, with wonderful views of the gardens, plus all over this hotel their are natural art.
The staff are also genuinely interested in you and very helpful, plus you will see the owner from time-to-time, who also is a very interesting person, who speaks wonderful English, who has a good eye for detail, which is something that becomes very noticable throughout this newly refurbished hotel. If you are an animal lover, they even supply friendly cats, although the dog likes to keep his distance, but then you can borrow one of the stray dogs from outside of the hotel, who will happly walk with you into town, who all seem to be well looked after and fed.
I highly recommend this hotel, and I think is one of the best hotels in town, and yes very expensive, but you have to pay more for this style of luxury in this upmarket small private hotel. This hotel is 1.5 km from the centre of town, where the restaurants and shops are, although we hired a bike when we were there, which is an excellent way to get around town.

Room Tip: All the rooms are very nice, and all have views of the gardens.

“Superb!”

The hotel is one of the nicest in Aticama. They have water, coffee, tea in the bar/lounge area. Fire pits are all over the property. It is a amazing to sit with a glass of wine at night and watch the stars. We haven't seen anything like the brightness of the stars here! There is a very nice pool area with lots of seating in and out of the sun. The staff speaks English and they are super helpful. It is an authentic Chilean experience here and we loved our stay. The rooms are clean.
