Try and plan your itinerary with the Inle lake at the end of your trip and then this is the ideal place to relax and watch lake life before you. It's not the cheapest place to stay on the lake by any means and how it compares to other lake view hotels I'm not sure. As you'll probably only be here 2 or 3 nights maximum then this is a great treat. I had one of the rooms facing out to the main part of the lake (the most expensive rooms), and sitting on your private verandah looking out over the lake (they provide a pair of binoculars in each rooms for guests), is just perfect. Hopefully you'll arrive by boat (the boats turn off their engines and use oars to keep the place quiet when approaching or leaving the hotel). I had pre-booked a guide and really only needed a boat, the boatman will take you to the jumping cat monastery, market and other places of interest), and if you spend the morning on the lake then an afternoon in your room is what you'll want. I'm not a birdwatcher though I defy anyone not to be whilst at this hotel. It really is a beautiful place.
The rooms are spacious with teak wood floors, sitting areas, lacquerware and a verandah on the lake. The bathroom also wood and the ceilings very high (each room is a single chalet). You cannot fault the design and would sit comfortably in an interiors magazine here.
The food is very good and the breakfasts are buffets with a very wide range of choices. The staff solicitous but not as warm as I found in other places in Burma. I think they feel a cut above working in what is supposed to be the best hotel on the lake.
