We hosted a special dinner following our wedding in the States in August 2011. We had family and friends from Bulgaria stay at the hotel since they traveled from Varna and Sofia to get to VT. It was really convenient to have people stay at the same hotel where we held our dinner. I am reviewing both the restaurant and the hotel for their service, both of which were outstanding.
Restaurant - the food was delicious. We worked with the manager/owner to have a five-course meal all included for a set price. We started with a mixed salad plate, followed by a plate of Bulgarian cheese wrapped in parchment paper, followed by the main course of grilled trout, with a dessert of a delicious homemade almond-cream cake. The only negative thing was that there was actually a bit TOO MUCH food because the portions were rather large. People felt full by the last course. They served bottled water and rakia on the side. The room itself was able to hold our large party of 25 guests. The doors were opened to the small cobblestone road outside the hotel with a beautiful view overlooking the Monument of the Asens and the river valley. The decor is that of a real Mehanata (Bulgarian ethnic restaurant) with local music playing in the background. A real quality experience, and certainly good value.
HOTEL - the rooms were beautiful and very spacious. The owner worked well with us to block off enough rooms for our many family and friends that stayed there. Even when one of our guests got locked out of his room, they were very accommodating to help us. The rooms were clean as well. I would highly recommend this place. It's a great location in Veliko Tarnovo, walking distance to everything, and located slightly off the main strip (so it's a bit quieter in the evening).
