“Great value”

The location is a little remote but this is good thing.
The room walls are I little thin so you can hear the people next door, but the room rate was so cheap what more do you expect.
Great service, very clean and very warm.
As for the slopes. The gondola side of the slopes are very good and not many people on them.
The food and drink in the town were very cheap and very nice.
Will be going back next year

“Fantastic hotel, beautiful location.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

We stayed at the Hotel Lion for a week in Feb 2012.
We were very impressed with how clean the hotel was, and found the staff to be very friendly and helpful.
The food was gorgeous, and there was always a great selection. We went half board, so we ate our breakfasts and evening meals at the hotel. I am a vegetarian and found there was lots of choice for me. The restaurant is lovely and never got too busy. We went on holiday as a group of nine people, and always found a table together.
The only criticism I have of the hotel is that the swimming pool was very cold. I have a two year old daughter, who would have loved to play in the pool more often, but we only went in once as it was freezing!
We found the hotel location to be perfect for us, as it was far enough away from the bars and resort centre, which were a little noisy at night, but only a five minute bus journey to the slopes during the day. The hotel run a free shuttle bus every half hour, to and from the resort centre. The hotel is surrounded by beautiful trees, and we spend many an hour sitting in the hotel lounge, by the open fire, sipping hot chocolates and looking out at the gorgeous views.
The resort itself is great for beginner skiers, and advanced also. Five of our party had never skied before, so we had three, four hour lessons with a great Bulgarian ski instructor called George, who worked for the ski school.
I would really recomend a ride on the skidoos. They are great fun! An hour trip cost around £25 per person. We were taken on a route up the mountain, through a forest. It was very magical!
At the resort, there is a tobogan area for the kids, which our daughter loved, as well as lots of cafes for warm up in after a few hours in the snow.
To sum the whole trip up, I would say that it was the best holiday I have ever had. I was very impressed with the hotel Lion and would definitely go there again.

Great hotel, nice food, good sized rooms, very clean and good service.Just got back from the Lion Hotel its in a very nice location about 1mile away from Borovets which is no problem as the bus runs every 20mins into town but stops at 6pm every day.Borovets is very busy, the ski runs are great with green, blue, red, and black runs to suit everybody. The hotel is very hot which is nice when you come back from a days skiing, but can become a problem in the evening.I have 1 problem and thats BARRY WHITE which is played morning noon and night.I never want to hear his voice again as long as live!!!!!!!! i was even dreaming about the big fellow in the evening!!!! However thats the only issue i have, Great hotel Great Skiing,Great resort, Great Place!!!! WANT TO GO BACK NOW!!!!!!!!

“Good hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2012 via mobile

We stayed at the lion hotel borovets in January 2012.

We were impressed with the hotel. The food was good and there was always something that we wanted to eat.

There staff we helpful. The hotel was always clean and the open fire in the entrance bar was very welcoming.

The hotel is about 1km away from the main ski area. There is a mini bus running during the day which worked fine. The longest we waited was 15 minutes with the average wait about 5. It was nice being away from the centre at night in the peace and quiet of the forest.

In the hotel you can use the sauna and pool free of charge which was nice after a busy day skiing.

The hotel is very warm even when turning the radiators off. By the end of the week we got the temperature right by wedging a sock in the window to give us a slight breeze.

I have read some critical reviews of this hotel on trip advisor an feel that some of the points made were unfair. This is a nice hotel and we would be happy to stay there again.

“Where do I start!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

When we first arrived we were put in a room that didn't have a window only 2 skylights that were covered in snow. We complained and were moved to another room but we then found makeup all over the towel rail in the bathroom.

The following day we discovered there was dried blood on the quilt and a used shower cap in the corner of the room under a stool. We complained again and got the quilt changed and the shower cap removed.

To top it off the breakfast was very poor and with a very limited choice. If you want fibre in your breakfast you'll be disappointed.

On the plus side we were far enough from the resort centre to have a nice quiet nights sleep. There is also free wifi in reception.

Dear Valued Guest,

Thank you, for sharing with us your thoughts about the services and facilities experienced during your stay at the Lion Hotel Borovetz.

I regret the fact that your impression about our hotel was not up to your expectations during your last stay with us. Please accept my sincerest apologies about our shortcomings and our failure to meet your expectations.

I would like kindly to inform you that action has been consequently taken and all cleaning staff has gone through intensive training program and daily check lists have been implemented. About the mentioned blood spot, I can reassure you we take very seriously all organic stains and dispose the materials with such stains immediately. After a thorough inspection between the HSK manager, your local rep and myself we all agreed this was not a blood stain at all.

You were accommodated in a room with skylight only because you have paid for a small room, not for a standard or luxury room. This was not a hotel fault but as a matter of courtesy we up-grated you to a higher type room for free.

The vast majority of our clients do like the breakfast buffet and the choice there is everything but no poor or limited. Nowhere in the world all breakfast items are changed daily, even so, the Chef is changing daily the type of sausage, the egg type, and the pastry.

I will take some time to explain to the Trip advisor readers in order not to be misled what the breakfast buffet contains: 2 type of eggs, local sausage or bacon, Heinz baked beans, 4 types of puff pastry, croissants or French toast, 3 types of fresh fruits, yellow and white cheese, tomato and cucumbers, variety of 5 jams and honey, full fat and skimmed milk, butter and margarine, etc. For fibre loving people we provide a wide range of cereals as: choco pops, corn flakes, muesli, whole oat nuts and fine oat nuts. The specially designed Healthy corner we proudly introduced in December and was there for the time of your stay. Sorry, for missing it.

Finally, I would like to thank you once more for your very valuable feed back and I hope that you will come back and give us the chance to make it up to you.

Sincerely Yours,

Ivan Kolaksazov,
General Manager
